La- asbire's entire cotton trade, at a re cent conterence here to urge upon the ttuvernment the importance of im rais ing the supply of raw cotton within the British Empire, heard Lord Derby, president of the British Cotton Crow ing association, declare that failure of the government to preserve the indus try would "turn Lancashire into howling wilderness."
