A show and sale of Duroe swine

bank officials decided to give a dem
cnstration of genuine Salem hospital
ity The banquet place has not been
designated, but will be held either at
the Marion hotel or at the Spa.
Interesting addresses are plannel
for the Tuesday night festivities. G.
X Pierson, president of the Union
dockyards of Portland will speak up
on "The depletion of brook stock in
the northwest;" Luther. Chapin, Sa
lem, "Hog raising in the Willamette
valley;" G. W- Eyre, vice president
of the United States National bank,
will depict "The hog as a mortgage
lifter, and friend to the farmer."
Following the round table .talk, the
assemblage will be the guests of the
fialem Commercial club at the Ore
gon theater. At the end of the late
Bhow, the stockmen will view special
films taken recently at the national
mine show at Chicago.
On Wednesday, lunch will be serv
ed at the fair grounds by the Ladies
Mi society of the Leslie Methodist
(hurch, Salem.

HOLT WILL LEAVE TO
TAKE NEWPOST SOON
Next Sunday will be the closing
day of the pastorate of Dr. G. F. Holt
at the First Baptist church. Dr. Holt
has resigned his place here and ac
companied by his family, leaves Tues
day for Seattle where he has accepted
the position of director of promotion
for the West-Washington Baptist con
vention. Dr. Holt came to Salem in March.
1916, and during his pastorate hers
the church has prospered greatly.
New members to the number of 327
have been received, bringing the
church membership up to 717.

Frank F. Lischke of Milwaukie,
who only recently filed with State
Engineer Cupper application for wa
ter rights covering several power sites
on streams in central Oregon, today
filed additional applications covering
appropriation of water for power pur
poses at the Moody. Lockit, Siuamox,
Oak Grove, Sherer Falls, Oak Springs
and Maupin power sites on the Des
chutes river. None of the applications,
however, have been completed.
An application was filed with the
engineer's office today by John J.
Romberg of Barnes, covering the ap
propriation of water from the South
Fork of Crooked creek for""the irri
gation of a small tract in Crook coun
ty.
SINN FEIXERS ARRESTED
Dublin. Jan. 31. Many Sinn Fein
leaders were arrested in a big round
up early today. They were taken to an
unrevealed destination.
