The general market decline in wheat was given as the reason for the drop. For the ap praisers are very careful along that line. I am not pessimistic, only looking the facts in the face. I have built many houses, borrowed "straight" loans and from building loan associa tions and am thoroughly acquainted with what I am talking about. The loan associations have helped many a man to get a home, but few, under ex isting conditions of today, when ma terial is worth more thun an ordinary town lot. A few wiseacres in Salem have "sat up and took notice' .'and. were going to build homes for all the working men of Salem, but when they saw the "bugbear"' they turned over and went to slep again.
