A speclar meeting of the parent
teacher association of the Lincoln
school will be held Friday afternoon
at 3:15 o'clock in the school build
ing. The gathering will be one of es

Thirty five dollars was realized by
the Home service section of the Red
Cross from the sale of the meat of the
big elk, which was killed at the state
fair grounds some time ago. The ani
mal was killed after It had killed one
deer, a female elk and an elk calf,
and had attacked Secretary A. H. Lea
of the fair board.

Upon federal warrants sworn to by
revenue officers working under Col
lector Milton A. Miller of Portland,
A. L. Fraser of Salem, was released"
under $500 bond, after appearance at
United States district court in Port
land, Saturday. The warrant was
served by deputy United States Mar
shall A. Willis.
A raid was made upon the Fraser
plumbing establishment here, about
three weeks ago and distilling appa
ratus, which the revenue officer
claim had not been registered, were
discovered and seized. The authorities
alleged that these stills were intend
ed for the production of alcoholic
drinks. One man who admitted order
ing the stills admitted that he Intend
ed to make a little moonshine, which
he claimed,' was far his children's
"colds." The stills were of 20 gallons
capacity.
Further action In regard to the In
dividuals who ordered the stills was
expected, but nothing definite has
been reported to date.

Roving Marines," a group of enter
talners, Will visit Salem in the near
future for an engagement of several
days, according to word received by
