Dublin, Dee. 29. Yesterday's shoot
Ihg affray near the lodge of Viscount
French,, lord lieutenant of Ireland,
was not an attempt to attack the vice
regal lodge, It was stated seml-offl-ciaily
today.
Police said tho affair, which still

A dozen stories of the details of
the fight were being circulated today.
"There were strong Indications it was
".-not any attempt by radicals to kill
Viscount French, but probably a mis
take caused by the activities of over
nealous'guards.
Attack Is at Night
According to the story obtained at
vice regal lodge, shots were heard
near the home ofLord French and
Lieutenant Boast, who was the lord
lieutenant's guest, rushed out with
two men to investigate. While pro
ceeding through the Inky darkness of
the grounds near Phoenix .Park they
suddenly came up a number of men
and firing started. Boast and one of
the civilians fell dead. The remaining
civilians fled through the shrubbery

Reports from various cities today
showed that at least 247 persons had
died from wood alcohol poisoning, the
'blind death," since prohibition went
into effect July 1.
In addition scores had been stricKen
blind and others are still In a serious
condition.

At least three persons were injured, and three autos
were wrecked in accidents in this city Sunday.. The in
jured persons are Mrs. E. G. Clark, route 5, Salem, brok
en collar bone: Stanley B. Laison, Ida Grove, Iowa, both
legs broken and severe bruises; and S. A. Perry, a taxi
driver, bad bruises. The autos belonged to L. Gr Llark,
T. L. Holley, 1277 So Commercial street and Alfred Mul
ler of Portland.

driven by E. G. Clark collided with an
auto driven by J. W. Neville, ot Port

verge of collapse at the county Jail to
day.
His condition was so serious that at

doubt whether ha could be taken to
court this morning. Physicians are in
