son received word last week telling
of the death of her grandmother, Mrs.
Swabb who was burled in Portland.
Two more cases of scarlet fever in
our midst and two more homes under
quarantine. The little boy and girl of
Mr. and Mrs. Sam Thomas had the
disease in a light form, and both their
home and the home of their mother
was quarantined as all had been ex
posed. The Ensley family are still un
der quarantine, but their time will
soon be up and the flag taken down
It Is hoped by these rigid measures
to get rid of the disease entirely.
Miss Alice Boyle and Mrs. Boyle
were visiting friends near Shedd last
week.
There will be a Christmas tree
and program given by the pupils or
our school the last afternoon before
the Christmas vacation. Just when the
vacation will be has not been decided.

stock show in Portland. They took
five of their Golden Glow herd, each
took a prize and none got lower than
second.

CONTEMPT CHARGE
AGAIN POSTPONED
Indianapolis, Ind Dec. 9. Hearing
on charges of cotitempt of court filed
against leaders of the United Mine
Workers of America were continued
today until next Tuesday because of
the prospective ending of the coal
strike. ;
The fe-!tal grand jury investigation
of information charging violation of
the Lever act by mine yperators and
mine workers 'postponed yesterday,
was continued until December 17.
When the contempt cases were call-!
ed in federal court, Judge C. B. Ames,
assistant United States district attor
ney, asked Judge Anderson to continue
the hearing because of the meeting of
the defendants, scheduled for this aft
ernoon.
"The government Confidently ex
pects steps will be taken at this meet
ing which will fully and completely
comply with the order of the court,"
he said.
"We be.ieve complete mining oper
ations -a ill be resumed following the
conference. In view of the facts which
may develop the government desires
continuance of the case for one week."

Mr. Siebo'.i's article in the New York
World-and for obvious reasons I pre
fer to make no comment further than
to say that my admiration and affec
tion for the president are. unchanged,-'
Colonel E. M. House declared in com
menting on an article to the effect
that he. is no longer in favor with
President Wilson.
The article, by Louis Siebold, recit
ed incidents wherein it is claimed the
colonel and the president were not in
accord at the peace conference and
expressed doubt that the president
even knows House has returned to this
country. It points out- that House
has not seen the president nor Secre
tary Lansing since he returned and is
apparently no longer a (actor in the
peace negotiations. The article ascribes
the belief that Colonel House and the
president are estranged to "diplomats
and politicians" and declares they ex
pressed the belief that the reason is
found in the authority House assumed
and mistakes he made.
, The part played by House in the
selection of Paris as the seat of the
peace conference, alleged action y
the colonel which resulted in the sac
rifice of the "freedom of seas" feature
of the fourteen points and his deal
ings with Orlando in connection with
the Fiume disputes, are cited as the
principal points upon which House
and the president broke.

days for Sing Hai, wanted for an at
tempted assault on Ella Wolfe, 14
Sunday at Louie's Noodle house. Fer

worked at Dallas, came to this city
