Notice is hereby given that bids for
the sale of $70,000.08 worth of gener
al obligation bonds of the city of Sa
lem will be received at my office In
the city hall up to 5 o'clock p. m.,
Monday December 1st. 1919. Bida will
be opened at the regular meeting of
the common council at or about 7 J 30
o'clock p. m. December 1st, 1919.
Said bonds will be sold to the high
est bidder or bidders for cash, but
for not less than par value and ac
crued interest. Bids will be received
for all or any part of said issue. A bid
for a portion only of said bonds, must
specify, the particular term, or time
to run of the bonds desired. These
bonds are 1 to 20 year serial refund
ing coupon bonds, and bear 6 percent
interest, payable semi-annually, and
are dated January 20th, 1920.
Each bidder must file with hi bid
a certified check for t percent of the
par value of the bonds bid for, made
payable to the city of Salem, which
will be forfeited to the city in case
any bidder to whom bonds are award
ed shall fall or refuse to accept and

Maud Powell Collapses
On Stage At St Louis
St. L,ouis, Mo., Nov. 28. Mine Maud
Powell," violin soloist who collapsed
on the stage of the Odeon theater last
night after playing a violin sole, was
reported suffering from a heart at
tack by physicians today. Mlsa Powell
had just finished playing a selection
when she sank to the stage. She was
rushed to a hospital. !
