DELUGE Of REFUGES
THREATENING POLAND
Warsaw Twenty-nine 'Poles who
have just completed a pilgrimage of
many months from the heart of
Siberia to the newly-redeemed city of
Minsk,' have brought the news that
at least 200,000 men taken prisoners
by the Austrians are waiting in
Siberia for an opportune moment to
return to Poland.

According to the newly-returned
refugees who were themselves Aus
trian prisoners of war, western Siberia
is full of homeless men claiming Pol
ish nationality. Several among them
placed the number as hi&h as 500,000.
The problem created in Poland by the
returning prisoners and refugees Is
alreardy acute, the government be
ing forced to rely heavily on Red
Cross help to feed and clothe them.
Should the number of refugees still
to return be In keeping with the esti
mate brought by the new arrivals. It
will mean an enormous additional
burden.
ROAD BUILDING ON THE DESERT
If you know of some one who Is
troubled with catarrhal deafness,

Secure from your druggist 1 ounce
of Parmint (double strength). Take
this home and add to it 1-3 pint of
hot water and a little granulated su
gar; stir until dissolved. Take one
tablespoonful four times a day. This
will often bring quick relief from dis
tressing head noises. Clogged nostrils
should open, breathing become easy
and hearing Improve as the Inflam
mation in the eustachian tubes is re
duced. Parmint used in this way acts
directly upon the blood and mucus
surfaces of the system and has a ton
ic action that helps to obtain the de
sired results. The preparation Is easy
to make, costs little and Is pleasant
to take. Every person who has ca-
tarrh or head noises or is hard of
hearing should give this treatment a

There is now nearing completion a
17-mile tangent of Lincoln highway
which cuts across the Salt Lake desert,
shortening the highway by eome fifty
miles. The desert surface is broken up
by means of gang plows and shaped by
means of road graders hauled by cater
pillar tractors. Owing to the nature of
the soil difficulty was experienced in
moist weather, due to the weight of
the tractors which sank into the mua
despite their broad bearing surfaces.
The difficulty was solved by bolting
timbers to the caterpillar belts so as
to broaden the tread of the machines.
As the roadbed is completed the gravel
is hauled and dumped over It by means
of motor trucks mounted on broad
steel-tired wheels which serve to pack
the road material.
