men at their regular noon-day lunch

Dr. Stivers is the first man in - the
United States, or so far as known, In
the world to advertise his church.
Not long ago he Attracted the atten
tion of churchgoers in all parts of the
United States by running full-page ads
In Eugene papers.
Rev. Stivers talked on "Christianity
in Business and Business In Christian
ity," and declared that business and
Christianity are daily growing in closer
relation.
He asserted that "it is a new day for
the church and the preacher," and
now thev have opportunity never of

Dr. Stivers told of how his church In
Eugene "had been almost on the
rocks." When he proposed the adver
tising of it, the old-timers "hold up
their hands In awe and surprise."
"But we raised $28,000 : there JuRt

"because we changed our tactics from
the nandy-pandy, wishy-washy basis to
the real sound foundation of business
principles."
He attacked the minister who ap
proaches the husinoss man on the
street with "Well, brother, what are
you doing for your soul this morning?"
"I'd rather pass 'em up than say
that,'' he declared. ' 'The only way to
get anywhere with a business man is
to talk business with him. Then you've
got a chance to get in your work prop
rly and effectively."
