8 BEHIND THE SCENES JULY 613, 2022 FROM THE COVER Catch a fi ddle — and guitar! — tune in Wallowa County By Lisa Britton Go! Magazine PUBLIC PERFORMANCES WALLOWA — The last few years have been tough, and musicians are ready to bring a smile to everyone’s face this week with fiddle and guitar music, courtesy of the Wallowa Fiddle Tunes Camp. “People have been so devoid of enjoyment,” said Robyn Burns, camp director. The camp is starting up after a two-year hiatus. It happens July 10-15 at Wal- lowa Elementary School. About 75 campers have registered, Burns said. A typical year brings about 110. Although registration is closed to join the camp, Burns wants to invite the public to a number of free events that showcase in- structors and campers. She’s also hoping the shows will pique interest for future camps. “Maybe next year you’ll want to sign up, too,” she said. Both campers and instructors will appear in several locations during the week for performances that are open and free to the public, sponsored by Wallowa Valley Music Alliance. Here’s the schedule: MONDAY, JULY 11 Open Mic Night: Campers will perform starting at 7 p.m. at Wallowa Elementary School. WEDNESDAY, JULY 13 Jams at Terminal Gravity, 803 School Street in Enterprise, 5:30 p.m. THURSDAY, JULY 14 Courthouse Concert Series: Camp instructors will perform starting at 5:30 p.m. on the courthouse lawn in Enterprise. Community Dance: Folk dancing for all ages, no partner or experience necessary, begins at 8 p.m. at Wallowa Elementary School. The dance caller is Laura Skovlin. Wallowa County Chieftain, File ABOVE: Youth and adults of varying skill levels will again gather at Wallowa Elementary School for the annual Wallowa Fiddle Tunes Camp, July 10-15, 2022. FRIDAY, JULY 15 Farewell Concert: Enjoy live music at 10:30 a.m. at Wallowa Elementary School. CAMP HISTORY The camp started in 2005. The focus of the camp, Burns said, is to help musicians learn how to play together. “We are giving the tools to navigate playing music together,” she said. “Learning that common language.” To learn more, visit wvmusicalliance.org/ wallowa-fi ddle-tunes-camp-2022.
