The theme of this year’s writ- ing festival is “Renewal.” “Summer Fishtrap eve- ning readings and events are a highlight of the week for me,” said Mike Midlo, Fishtrap program director. “It’s always great to see people from the community come up to the lake to take in, and be a part of, the Summer Fishtrap experi- ence.” He said this tradition dates to 1988. Each night, Wallowa Lake Lodge will serve drinks from 5-7 p.m. and all events be- gin at 7:30 p.m. outdoors under Aaron Abeyta the big tent. Admission is free except for the special keynote presentation on Friday, July 15, with luk’up- síimey/North Star Collective. Led by Beth Piatote, this group of Nez Perce artists, writers and Indigenous language activists will speak about their culture and homeland of the Wallowas.
