and adults alike busy in June and
beyond, with a summer art pro-
gram for kids and classes for all

YOUTH ART PROGRAM
Summer Adventures Around
the World
• June 6-17
• $300
“Students will learn about the
art cultures of a diff erent country
or region each week,” said Ryan
McKnab, youth program direc-
tor. “They will learn about what
makes the countries unique.”
Art lessons will include art
styles, famous artists, famous
artwork, landscapes of the coun-
try, famous architecture, sports
of the country, fl ag symbolism,
cartooning, foods/cooking of
the region and fi ber arts. The
program will cover France, India,
Caribbean, East Coast America,
Baltic Nations, East Asia, Great
Britain, Brazil, Australia, Rural
America, South Africa and Egypt.
“We also will be collaborat-
ing with the local school district
to weave in summer school for
some kids,” McKnab said. “We
also have teamed up with a yoga
leader and a tumbling instructor.”
He said the summer program
will include trips to the park each
week and special events planned
by the John Day Canyon City
Parks and Recreation District.
Angel Carpenter will teach
students how to create this
whimsical cow’s hair with a
simple “squiggle” technique.
