Enterprise track team combines to win nine events

JOHN DAY — The Enter-
prise boys track and fi eld team
took second Friday, May 6, at the
Grant Union Invitational, win-
ning four events in the process,
while the girls team placed third
and won fi ve events.
Zac Knapp had two individual
victories for the Outlaws, posting
a time of 2:02.08 to win the 800-
meter run, and a time of 10:13.65
to win the 3,000. He also was part
of the winning 4x400 relay team,
joining Weston Wolfe, Ransom
Peters and Levi Ortswam to post
a top time of 3:37.14. Ortswam
posted the fourth win of the day
with a time in the 400 of 50.99
seconds, and he was second in
the 200 in 23.86.
Taking second was Tyler
Knapp in the 3,000 in 10:42.93,
Roan Flynn in both the 300 hur-
dles (45.28) and the long jump
(17-feet-7½), and the 4x100 relay
team of Peters, Andrew Nordt-
vedt, Cory Walker and Ortswam
in 46.79.
Peters added third-place fi n-
ishes in both the 100 (12.06) and
the 200 (24.61), Flynn was third
in the 110 hurdles (19.00) and
Wolfe was third in the triple jump
(37 feet, 1½ inches). And round-
ing out top-four fi nishes was Tan-
ner Kesecker in fourth in the dis-
cus (106-10) and Wolfe in fourth
in the 300 hurdles (46.80).
On the girls side, the 4x100
relay team led the way with
Jada Gray, Maddie Nordtvedt,
Lannie Stonebrink and Nevaeh
James winning in 53.75. James
and Gray both added individual
wins, with Gray taking the 100
hurdles in 20.31, and James win-
ning the 300 hurdles in 51.94.
Also getting victories were Ken-
dall Wigen in the 400 (1:08.05)
and Madison Wigen in the high
jump (4-8).
Gray added two more run-
ner-up eff orts, taking second in
the high jump at 4-feet-6, and
in the 300 hurdles in 55.31. The
4x400 relay team of Alisha Mel-
ville, Stonebrink, Kendall Wigen
and Maddie Nordtvedt was sec-
ond in 4:33.03. James also was
second in the 100 (14.23), Madi-
son Wigen was second in the 200
(31.27), Melville was second in
the 400 (1:08.88) and Nordtvedt
was second in the 800 (2:44.51).
In third was Ailena McEntire
in the 200 in 31.92, and Nordt-
vedt was fourth in the 100 (14.43)
and Kendall Wigen fourth in the
long jump (12-11¼).
The Outlaw boys fi nished
with 140 points to trail just Grant
Union (194 points) and the girls
had 136 points, behind Grant
Union (185) and Burns (153).
The team returns to action
May 13 at the 2A Special District
5 Championships in Athena.
Joseph track
competes in
Baker City

BAKER CITY — The Joseph
boys track and fi eld team had three
athletes place at the “Ray Day”
Invitational at Baker City on Fri-
day, May 6, while the girls team
had two place.
Bayden Menton led the way for
the Joseph boys by placing sec-
ond in the 1,500 in 4:30.19, while
in the same race, teammate Jett
Leavitt was sixth in 4:39.32.
Kale Ferguson, meanwhile,
was third in the javelin (146 feet,
11 inches) and fourth in the discus
(119-10).
For the girls, Basey Daw-
son was seventh in the high jump
(4-10) and Iona McDonald was
eighth in the 3,000 (13:46.14).
The Joseph boys as a team tied
for 13th, and the girls took 19th.
Joseph returns to Baker on May
13 for the 1A Special District 4
Championships.

The Wallowa Valley baseball
team continued its homestand with
two easy victories Wednesday,
May 4, shutting down Umatilla in
a Special District 5 doubleheader,
10-0 and 10-2.
Drew Beachy tossed fi ve shut-
out innings in the opener, allowing
just three hits and striking out six
batters.
Caden Fent helped power the
off ense with three RBIs, including
a two-run single during a four-run
second. Jaxon Grover had three
hits, scored three times and drove
in a run, and Spencer Decker had
two hits, scored twice and drove
in two runs. Kylar McQuead and
Jesse Larison both added a pair of
runs.
In the nightcap, McQuead drove
in three runs, Grover had four more
hits and Decker went 3-for-4 as the
Eagles coasted to a second win for
the sweep.
Grover scored three times in
the win, and both Decker and Fent
scored two runs. As a team, the
Eagles fi nished with 14 hits.
Wallowa Valley (11-8 over-
all, 6-4 SD5) traveled to Athena to
play Weston-McEwen on May 10,
then wraps up the regular season
May 13 at home against Nyssa.
Wallowa/Joseph was led by
Chase Homan, who shot a 95
to be part of a three-way tie for
third. Willie Gibbs added a score
of 120, and Jonas McKee shot a
124.
For the Enterprise girls, Jor-
dyn Stonebrink led the way with
a score of 109. The rest of the
Outlaws fi nished in a tight bunch.
Ashlynn Greer was second on
the team with a score of 128, Jor-
dan Jennings and Codi Cunning-
ham both shot a 131, and Kimber
Stein posted a score of 133.
The teams were in action
Monday and Tuesday at the Dis-
trict Tournament in Pendleton.
ENTERPRISE — Dylan Jen-
nings took second overall to lead
the Enterprise boys golf team to
a fourth-place fi nish during its
home meet, the Enterprise Invita-
tional, on Friday. May 6.
Jennings shot a 93 on the day,
just two strokes behind win-
ner Landon Mitchell of Hep-
pner. Alex Albanez was second
on the team with a score of 111,
followed by a 119 from Caleb
Sheahan. Nathan Lamb carded
a 129, and Gunnar McDowell
rounded out the team eff ort with
a score of 163.
SOFTBALL
Wallowa Valley posts two more shutouts

Add two more shutout vic-
tories for the Wallowa Valley
softball team.
Sophie Moeller homered and
Liz Rowley tossed a one-hit
shutout as the Outlaws blanked
Umatilla, 11-0, in the opener of
a Friday, May 6 doubleheader.
In the nightcap, Rilyn Kirkland
went deep and Aimee Meyers
threw a three-hit shutout in a
12-0 victory. Both games were
fi ve-inning wins.
In the fi rst game, Rowley
struck out 10 batters, walked
one, gave up a hit and hit two
batters. At the plate, she had
two hits and drove in two runs.

Moeller’s home run was part
of a 3-for-4 game, one in which
she drove in three runs and
scored twice. Meyers and Syd-
ney Hopkins also scored twice.
In the second game, Mey-
ers struck out six batters on the
way to her shutout. Kirkland
had two hits, drove in three
runs and scored twice. Cooper
Nave, Abby Straight and Hop-
kins both added two RBIs. And
Moeller scored three times.
With the two wins, Wallowa
Valley secured second place in
Special District 2. It was also
the seventh and eighth shutouts
of the season for the Outlaws.
Wallowa Valley (16-6 over-
all, 8-2 SD2) wraps up the reg-
ular season at home May 13
against Nyssa.
