In addition, for the 14th year,
the La Grande Arts Commis-
sion presented two awards to
students from La Grande High
Best of Show, 9th grade: “Portrait” by
Amber George, Elgin High School
School. Their Young Artist
Award went to Alyssa Moy for
her acrylic painting “Vitality and
Peace.” Their honorable mention
award went to Nora Crews for
her charcoal and graphite draw-
ing “Self Control.” The LGAC
award winners were selected by
La Grande Arts Commissioner
Amber Scroggins and presented
by Cory Peeke. The Young Artist
Award comes with a gift basket
worth more than $100 and the
honorable mention was given a
gift basket worth more than $50.
Other special awards were
presented by four regional art
centers.
Art Center East presented an
“Excellence in the Arts-Union
County” award to Marielle
Graff under, a 10th grader from
Union High, for her acrylic paint-
ing “Glasses,” and an “Excel-
lence in the Arts-Grant County”
award to Carson Weaver from
Grant Union High for her fused
glass piece “Intersection.” Each
award comes with a $50 Blick
gift card.
Baker County’s Crossroads
Carnegie Art Center awarded
a $50 award. Their “Outstand-
ing Baker High School Artist”
award went to Dana Luster for
her watercolor “Eastern Oregon
Repair.”
Pendleton Center for the
Arts presented a $100 “PCA
Promise Award” to Yareli Perez
for her colored pencil drawing

Director’s Awards, one to Olivia
Booker for her digital print “Bos-
ton” and the other to Cameron
Skinner for his metal sculpture
“King Cobra.”
The Josephy Center for
Arts and Culture presented the
Wallowa County High School
Art Merit Award in the form of a
$150 Blick gift card to McKenzie
Keff er of Joseph Charter School
for her graphite drawing “Per-
spective of Mind.”
The winning artists’ works
are posted on the Nightingale’s
Instagram account.
“On behalf of the EOU Art
Department and the Night-
ingale Gallery I would like to
congratulate the winners and all
the students with work on view,”
Peeke said. “And I would also like
to congratulate the art teachers
who go above and beyond to
help students create works of
such a high caliber.”
