Dona- tions are accepted. Condon, who died March 7, 2020, at the age of 92, began writing dramas to provide historical information about the church and saints. Born and raised in Ireland, he served 57 years in the priesthood, the last 22 in Heppner and Ione. Staging Condon’s plays be- came an annual tradition lead- ing up to the town’s annual St. Patrick’s celebration. JoAnna Lamb, Heppner Chamber of Commerce executive director, said the play was performed in Ione, just a day after the beloved priest’s death. How- ever, pandemic restrictions postponed its curtain call in Heppner. The play is based on the life of Therese Martin, who was born in 1873. At 15, she was fi nally allowed to join a convent after petitioning the Pope. The young nun’s autobiography, “The Story of a Soul,” was pub- lished shortly after her death of tuberculosis at age 24.
