They’ll use a cross cut saw and ax to turn it into fi rewood. 50 YEARS AGO March 2, 1972 May 25, 1925 - February 6, 2022 Jane (Kehoe) Boyink, age 96 of Mesa, AZ, died on Feb. 6, 2022, in Wallowa, OR. She is survived by a daughter, Faith Conrad of Wallowa, OR, and a son, CSM (Ret.) Kim D. Boyink of Mesa, AZ. Other survivors are grand- children and great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. She was preceded in death by her Wisconsin parents, her Mesa brother, Mack Kehoe, her Mesa sister, Ethel Kachelmeier, her Wisconsin brother Dennis Kehoe, her husband, Don Boyink, and her daughter, Dawn Nelson. Jane had been a federal government employee for many years including being a writer-editor for the U.S. Army in Albuquerque, NM, and a secretary at Williams Air Force Base, Mesa, AZ. She also had enjoyed being a secretary at 20th Century Fox Studio in Los Angeles. Burial services were managed by the family in Wallowa, OR, and assisted by the Bollman Funeral Home. She was laid to rest in the Alder Slope Cemetery Enterprise, OR. Jane wrote a poem entitled: The Last Word “He kept my heart beating every second. Then, as a final gift, He beckoned.” Mary Ellen Hawkinson May 6, 1936 - February 8, 2022 Mary Ellen Hawkinson, 84, of Fort Mojave, AZ, passed away Feb. 8, 2022, after a long battle with can- cer. Mary is survived by one brother, Walt, and his wife Jean; sister-in-law June Jones; granddaughter Kelly Howland; grandsons Allen Thorne, John Thorne and Bill Thorne; and many nieces and nephews and many friends. Mary was preceded in death by her first husband John Thorne, and sons John and James. Mary remarried James E. Hawkinson in May, 2011. They had five hap- py years together until he passed away in 2016. Mary’s parents, Henry Wiegan and mother Dorothy Stern; her brother Henry and her sister Betty Stier all have passed away. Mary was born in Detroit, MI, on May 6, 1936. The family moved to California. Mary met John Thorne and was married in 1952. They lived in California un- til John was discharged from the Navy. They moved to Oregon City, OR, in 1954 and then moved to Wallowa in 1992. Mary had many friends in Wallowa. She loved to crochet and was an excellent baker. Mary worked for some years at the Wallowa Pharmacy and was involved in community activities until leaving Wallowa in 2017. Mary moved to assisted living in Astoria until she re- located to Fort Mojave in September, 2021. She lived with her brother, Walt, and his wife Jean, who took care of her until she passed away. Services are pending until spring.
