Highway 395. There is no admission charge; donations are accepted. The concert features two pieces by Ludwig Van Beethoven: Symphony No. 1 and Piano Concerto No. 1. Guest pia- nist will be Harriet Wong, who will perform on the newly repaired and refi nished 9-foot Chickering grand piano. Wong is currently pursuing a doctoral of musical arts degree at the University of Washington, studying with Dr. Robin McCabe. Prior to her arrival in Seattle, she performed as a pianist, conductor and accompanist in Macau. She taught at the Macao Saturday, March 12 4 p.m. Hermiston Community Center 415 S. Conservatory and Macau Youth Symphony Orchestra Associa- tion and has performed with the Macau Piano Association and Macau Strings Association. Born in Macau, she received the high- est honor of the “Cultural Aff airs Bureau Prize” in the 20th Macau Youth Music Competition. Wong received her bachelor’s and master’s from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, under Dr. William Heiles. During that time she won fi rst prize in the Clara Rolland Piano Com- petition and the award as the most outstanding student of the music school in her senior year. She also studied organ and harpsichord. HISTORY OF THE CHICKERING PIANO The piano was acquired in the Gourmet Provisions, Majestic Pizza, Wine & Beer Bottle Wonderland, Dedicated Tap House, Craft Cocktails, Espresso Bar, Local & Far-Out Deli 403 S. Main Street Pendleton • 541.276.1350 late 1970s or early 1980s for the Hermiston Community Concert Association, thanks to a drive that raised about $8,000. The instrument was located in the old Armand Larive Junior High School Auditorium for eight to 10 years and used for concerts and recitals by artists and local students. The piano was then moved to the Hermis- ton Community Center, then to Hermiston High School Auditori- um when ownership transferred to the Hermiston School District with the agreement that it would be maintained for performances and be available for recitals and community concerts. In August 2021, the piano was donated to the Inland Northwest Musicians and is back at the Hermiston Community Center. RAFFLE The INWM is raffl ing “The Beethoven Quilt,” which was made by Mama Bear’s Quilt Shop in Stanfi eld. The quilt was originally to be auctioned at the 2020 dinner auction fundraiser, but that was cancelled. The quilt will be on display, and tickets sold, at the March 12 concert.
