Campers located Sheehy steps down at Josephy Center New development director is sought By BILL BRADSHAW Wallowa County Chieftain JOSEPH — Kellee Sheehy, who has been development director at the Josephy Center for Arts and Culture for the past two years, is stepping down as of Friday, Sept. 17, she announced last week. “I do some personal con- sulting work from home and will likely continue that, but my main focus right now is my kids,” she said in a statement. “For deeply personal reasons, I am stepping away from my position as the develop- ment director at the Jose- phy Center.” Sheehy said she hopes the Wallowa County com- munity will continue to support the center. “I’ve had a wonderful experience working here and am honored to have been part of this amazing organization even for a rel- atively short time,” she stated. “The things I’ve learned, the relationships I’ve made and the gener- osity I’ve witnessed, have been an invaluable part of my life experience. And while I’m certainly proud of my personal accom- plishments, I’m even more proud of what we accom- IN BRIEF August was cooler, dryer than average JOSEPH — Tempera- tures reported in Wallowa County during the month of August were below aver- age overall, according to the National Oceanic & Atmo- spheric Administration. The average temperature for the month, as recorded in Joseph by the National Weather Service, was 61.2 degrees, which was 2.9 degrees below normal. High temperatures averaged 77.8 degrees, 3.7 below normal, and lows averaged 44.6 degrees, 2.1 below normal. The top high tempera- ture for the month was 92 degrees on the 15th, one of six days the high was at or above 90 degrees. The lowest high was 58 plished together as a community.” She was particularly appreciative to those who support what the center does. “Thank you for making all of it possible,” she said. “Thank you for support- ing arts and culture. Thank you for supporting chil- dren, creativity, freedom of expression and the future of Wallowa County. Please continue to support the Josephy Center so it can continue to grow alongside your needs.” She said she doesn’t expect to entirely step away from the center. “There’s no doubt that you will see me around the center — maybe teaching a dance class, ringing you out at the docent desk or even in the art room trying to put paint on some poor, unsuspecting canvas,” she stated. Center Director Cheryl Coughlan said that the center does not yet have a replacement for Sheehy lined up, and is in the process of advertising for one. As development director, Sheehy was a senior staff member in charge of fundraising, writing grants, public- ity and other promotional duties, Coughlan said. Until a replacement is found, Coughlan will degrees on the 21st. The lowest tempera- ture for the month was 32 degrees on the 31st, and the highest low was 58 degrees on the 1st. On 13 days, the high tem- perature was at or above the average, and on 12 days the low was at or above average. While cooler, the month was also dryer. There was a total of 0.75 inches of pre- cipitation reported, 0.48 inches below normal. The wettest day was on Aug. 18, when 0.37 inches — nearly half the month’s total — came down. So far in 2021, just 4.58 inches of precipitation has fallen, which is 38.4% of normal. Sheehy said she’s stepping down to spend more time with her family. Linda Naomi Doss October 18, 1925 - August 20, 2021 Linda Naomi Doss was born in Enterprise on 10/18/25 to Alfred I. Henderson and Hatti May (Davis) Henderson. Naomi passed away at home on 08/20/21. Naomi married Lloyd T. Doss in 1942. They had three children, Dennis, baby Mary Ellen and Timothy. In 1945 they moved to southern California. The opportunity arose and Lloyd and Naomi and Tim moved back to Wallowa County in 1963 and purchased the Imnaha Store. The store was a challenge they met with success and love. Later on Naomi became the Imnaha Post Master. She loved it. She was eager to help anyone with matters postal and other. Doing something was always better than doing nothing. Naomi enjoyed life. She was proud of her friendships. She could discuss almost anything with almost anyone. She had that gift. To the many friends of Naomi, thank you for those years. All of the above named and some not received what we called the off and on talk. Delivered as consoler, cheerleader or drill sergeant. A pep talk ending with “you have what it takes, get off your ass and on your feet.” She could be direct. She was preceded in death by baby Mary Ellen, husband Lloyd and son Timothy. Bollman Funeral Home entrusted with arrangements William “Will” Jordan Voss December 1, 1990 - September 2, 2021 William “Will” Jordan Voss, known by many as Will Bill, age 30 of Enterprise, Oregon died Thursday, September 2, 2021 by his own hand. Will was born December 1, 1990 in Ashland, Oregon and raised by his parents, Dwayne and Carol Voss along with his sister, Erin outside of Joseph, Oregon on their family ranch. Growing up Will enjoyed floating the ditch on the property, playing with the lambs, and tagging along with his dad to haul hay. And then as he got older hunting, fishing and chasing his hound dogs through the snow. After graduating from Enterprise High School in 2009, Will went on to work a variety of different jobs, including fighting fire, before settling back in Joseph to work on the family ranch. Will started dating Jessica “Jessi” Probert and later proposed New Year’s Eve 2016. They married on the Lightning Creek Ranch September 2, 2017. They enjoyed spending time together on the Voss and Probert ranches, raising cattle and spending their time outdoors. Will enjoyed taking care of his heifers so much, Jessi joked she wished that Will wanted to spend as much time with her as he did the heifers. Will and Jessi welcomed their first child, a son, Augustus Jack on April 16, 2019. Followed two years later, by daughter DaniRae Dayle on August 9, 2021. Will is survived by wife Jessi, children Augustus and DaniRae, parents Dwayne and Carol, sister Erin, half siblings Chris and Joie, in-laws Dan and Suzy Probert, Russell and Ducki Probert and godchildren Jacob and Isabelle Casper, along with numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews, as well as many friends. Will should be remembered as a great man. He was a wonderful husband, father, son and friend to many. Will lost his passion for life in the darkness but his family wants everyone to remember his good attributes and his love for his family and friends. Lawrence “Larry” L. Christman Colton James Vaughn April 7, 1937 - August 21, 2021 July 24, 1990, - August 25, 2021 Lawrence (Larry) Lee Christman, 84 of Enter- prise, OR passed away Aug. 21, 2021 at Wallowa Memorial Hospital due to complications from pneu- monia. Larry was born April 7, 1937 in Baker, the son of Fredrick and Eva Lillian Christman. His early school- ing began in Bates, before moving to North Powder, where he attended elementary and high school, graduating in 1955. He worked for US Gypsum in Pilot Rock for sev- eral years before attending Eastern Oregon College in La Grande. His higher education included a Bachelor and Master degree of Education, and administration certification from the University of Montana. In 1960, Larry and Anne Lieuallen met at EOC and were united in marriage Sept. 17, 1961 in Weston. Following graduation from EOC in 1962, he began his teaching career as “Head Teacher” at Oxbow. He also taught in Athena and was named elementary principal in Weston and Wasco before settling in Enterprise in 1972 as elementary principal. In 1976 he was selected Superin- tendent of Schools for the district and held that position until 1995. In 1996- 1998 he served as superintendent of schools in Pilot Rock and various years between 2000-2012 the same position at Elgin School District. Larry was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, educator, communi- ty leader and role model. He was an active community leader serving on the Enterprise City council, mayor from 1986-1990 and again on the council until 2020. After retirement, Larry enjoyed spending time with his wife and their grandchildren taking them on camping trips and adventures and attending their school events. He enjoyed mowing the Enterprise Community Church lawn and many lawns in the neighborhood, and in the winter the same route plowing snow. He was a fifty-year member of Joseph Masonic Lodge, Joseph’s Valley Chapter Order of the Eastern Star and a member of Elks Lodge. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Anne, sons, Steven (Jody) of Island City, Richard (Staci) and Marc (Ashley), of Enterprise, twin sister Lorraine Craw- ford, of Joseph, grandchildren Alix, Nathan, Duncan, Caden, Jerika, Jayden, Stefany, Reece, Pierce, and Carter and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Harold Hansen and Charles Christman. A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, Oct. 2 nd at 2:00pm at the Cloverleaf Hall in Enterprise. Memorials in his honor may be made to an edu- cational foundation of the donor’s choice. Mr. Colton James Vaughn died August 25, 2021 at the age of 31 in Weippe, ID. Colton was born July 24, 1990, in Walla Walla, WA and considered Imnaha their hometown. Colton James Vaughn 31 of Weippe Idaho (for- mer resident of Imnaha) passed away August 25, 2021 due to complications of Covid. Colton was a gentle giant who was know for his bear hugs, infectious giggle, and love of life. As he was growing up, he loved the outdoors. Colton grew up on a ranch and loved all animals. He could be found driving the back road with his buddies, riding his motorcycle, snow- mobile or working on his pickup. Colton loved music and spending time with his family and friends. Christmas was his favorite holiday with family traditions of being around the Christmas tree watching the newest Christmas movie on Christmas eve, bak- ing Christmas cookies, sledding, and good food throughout the holiday. He married the love of his life Katherine Loeffler Vaughn October 17, 2020. She is the light of his life. Natasha Loeffler is his little girl, whom he loved and protected with grit and caring. Colton and Katie welcomed a son Rhett James Vaughn August 11, 2021 who is the shining light in the darkness of losing Colton. Colton was preceded in death by his father Dave Vaughn, uncle Scott Faler, grandpa Howard Wilson, and grandma Wilma Wilson. He is survived by his wife Katherine Loeffler Vaughn, daughter Natasha Loeffler, son Rhett Vaughn, brother Cody Vaughn and his wife Tanya, moth- er Peggy Vaughn, step-father Scott Anderson, grandparents Carol and Jerry Vaughn, mother-in-law Michele Freeman, and brother-in-law John Freeman. Colton’s best friend through thick and thin Levi Heywood. Colton has many uncles, aunts, cousins and friends who will miss him greatly forever. He will forever live in the hearts and memories of his loved ones. We will be having a celebration of life for Colton April 30, 2022 at Deyo Reservoir - Weippe Idaho and will be spreading his ashes July, 2022 in one of his favorite places the mountains around Wallowa Lake Oregon. A memorial fund for Katie, Natasha and Rhett has been set up on Go fund me and at Idaho Central Credit Union under the name “Colton Vaughn Memo- rial”.
