She also worked for the National Education Association and worked as a credit union manager. A brief marriage resulted in no children for Lamoreaux. 1971 The court of 50 years ago — 1971 — was Queen Mavis O’Rourke Maxwell and Princesses Vickie Haw- kins, Patsy Olds, who has since died, and Madalynne Rogers. “I always wanted to do it,” Maxwell said of par- ticipating in the CJD court. “I was always in 4-H and wanted to try out for the court.” The 1972 Joseph High School graduate has fond memories of the time. “Traveling with the girls was a bond between the four of us. Our ‘queen mother’ was Mary Hayes and she always made sure we were where we were supposed to be,” Maxwell said. “Being able to represent the CJD, we were always welcomed wherever we went.” She worked at Costco for 11 years and now has two grown children, six grandchildren and one great-grandchild. She lives in Joseph at her late parents’ former home. She said she expects the whole family to be at this year’s rodeo. “The grandkids and kids are all coming up, so we’ll be there,” she said. Maxwell said rodeo par- ticipation has continued on in her family. Her daughter, Sherry Ledgerwood, was a princess at the Elgin Stam- pede and queen at the East- ern Oregon Livestock Show. Her son, Jason Maxwell, did a bit of bareback riding in regional rodeos. The Chieftain was unable to contact Hawkins or Rogers.
