Low net score for the Elks’ golf tourney was made by Bill Preece of Enterprise, who turned in a score of 138. It will give a straight road from the court house south nearly to the mountains, run- ning on section lines. A new electric alarm sys- tem is being installed to pro- tect the vault of the Enter- prise State bank. It is so designed that it is believed it will be practically impos- sible to break into the vault day or night. Press Self, who has a tobacco, confectionery and shoe shining shop on Main Street just west of West First, was arrested yester- day and charged with selling cigarets to boys. He pleaded guilty and was fi ned $25. The Wallowa sidewalk contract has been practically fi nished. The move was made as conditions continue to remain hot and dry across much of the west. Additional fi re-preven- tion measures take place as a result of the move to extreme, or Industrial Fire Precaution Level 4. According to a press release from the U.S. For- est Service, the IPFL 4 mea- sures add the following restrictions: • Chain saw and power saw use is not allowed. • Tractor, skidder, fell- er-buncher or shovel logging operations are not allowed, nor are mechanized loading operations, hauling of any product or material, cable yarding, or blasting. • Welding, metal cutting, or any other activities that can produce or emit a spark are not allowed.
