Leff el who exhibited it in Joseph and afterward sent it to friends outside as an exhibit of Wallowa county’s attractions. Fire which swept with astonishing speed nearly destroyed a fi ve-room bun- galow on West First street, which had been rented fur- nished to C.D. Jones. Mrs. Jones, alone with her baby, ran thru the parlor, where the fl ames already were eating their way, and out the front door. She did not even stop to put on her shoes. The greater part of Wal- lowa county’s wool clip is now off the sheep’s backs and ready for market. The total number of sheep in the county is estimated at 95,250 plus there are about 35,000 sheep from outside the county grazing for the summer in the forests. the room recently vacated by the Joseph Radio and Elec- tric. Surveillance of each of the banks was con- ducted during the day and bank personnel were on edge throughout the day. It was learned later that a rob- bery had been attempted in another part of the state. Mrs. Maude Ortman received her 60-year Jewel as a Rebekah. July 2, 1936 - March 7, 2021 Larry Dale Jacobson Gerald Leon Crawford, long-time resident of Joseph, peacefully passed to his place in heaven on March 7, 2021 in his home. Born July 2, 1936 in Bak- er, Oregon to Harry and Norma (Jensen) Crawford, Gerald grew up in Baker, graduating Baker High School in 1953 at sixteen. He immediately started work at Oregon Lumber. Gerald met (Mary) Lorraine Christman of North Powder in 1955, and they married on October 5, 1956. The couple moved to Pilot Rock in 1957 where Gerald worked at US Gypsum until 1962 when, tak- ing a leap of faith, he enrolled at Eastern Oregon College moving his family which now included two sons, to La Grande. By January 1, 1966, Gerald had earned his Bachelor of Science in Education, graduating Cum Laude, and was hired to teach in the Halfway Elementary School for the Pine Eagle School Dis- trict. He attended summer school at San Jose State on a grant in 1968, and earned a Master of Science Degree in Education from Eastern Oregon College in 1972. The family moved to Joseph, Oregon in the summer of 1976 where Gerald taught until 1994. After retiring, Gerald enjoyed a happy and fulfilling life traveling extensively with Lorraine across North America. He volunteered as an assis- tant coach for Boys’ Golf and scorekeeper for Girls’ Basketball at Enterprise High School. Gerald contributed to his community through his over fifty-year mem- bership in the Masonic Lodge and Eastern Star, serving in various state offices and committees and as the Maxine Assembly’s Rainbow Dad and once as State Rainbow Dad. He was also proud of his work as a forty-year member of the Shrine, and the family would like any memorial contributions to be made specifically to the Portland Shriners’ Hospital. Gerald enjoyed wood- working, fishing, camping, hunting and golf. The Crawfords were members of the Enterprise Community Church. Survivors include: wife Lorraine, son Michael (Tammy), Enterprise; son Darryl (Tammy), Cocololla; brother Donald (Beverly), Pendleton, grandson (Michael)Bo (Catherine) Crawford of Las Vegas; grandson Kyle (Kate) Craw- ford, Enterprise; granddaughter Chelsey (Jed), Tacoma; granddaughter Brandi (Joey) Kent, Post Falls; and eight great-grandchildren. Gerald was interred in the Prairie Creek Cemetery with a service officiated by Archie Hook of Enterprise Community Church, assisted by the Joseph Masonic Lodge. A celebration of life will be held Saturday, July 3, with a potluck gathering behind the Enterprise Community Church starting at 2:00. For details call (541)398-1130. All friends are invited. February 7, 1959 - May 17, 2021 2021 Larry Dale Jacobson was born February 7, 1959 in Lebanon, Oregon. He was called to Heaven on May 17, 2021, being greeted by loved ones. Larry lived in Gates and Mill City, Oregon for his younger years. Then moved to John Day, Oregon, graduating from Grant Union high school in 1977. He also lived in Mt. Vernon, Astoria and Lostine, Or- egon. Larry was a hard worker at Ford Motor Co., Or- egon State Parks and 33-1/2 years with the Oregon Department of Transportation in John Day, Astoria and Enterprise, Oregon, where he retired from in June 2013. Larry was a volunteer ambulance driver and a reserve officer in John Day, Oregon. He also worked at the Forest Service fighting fires in his spare time supporting his family. Larry’s greatest joy was his family. On Sept. 15th, 1978, Larry married his high school sweetheart, Juanita Dennis. They went on to have two children Ryan and Christina. Larry enjoyed scuba diving, and hunting, teaching and raising his children with hunting, fishing, camping and anything outdoors. Larry was a perfec- tionist with cooking and smoking dinners, for family gatherings and sharing with anyone who came around to visit. Larry took pride in his family and home always making sure he had a well groomed lawn and place to come and visit at all times. Larry fought several battles, Lyme disease, IPF (ideopathic pulmonary fibrosis), gallbladder, hernias and then Non Hodgkin’s Follicular Lymphoma stage 4 cancer which took him home. Larry still had his smile and sense of humor through all of this with a positive attitude. Larry was preceded in death by his mom Geneva; his grandparents, Nina and Virgil Hoover; brother-in-law Carl; mother-in-law Dorothy; aunts and uncles Jim and Shirley Hoover, Delbert and Mae Neal and his fur babies Heidi and Sausha. Larry is survived by his wife of 43 years of marriage and together 45-1/2 years with Juanita; son Ryan and his son Levi, three daughters Hailey, Ryleigh and Remi; daughter Christina and (Jeremiah) and their two daughters Tina and Alyse; father Eugene Jacobson; sister-in-law Dorothy and (Robert); best friend Duane Dennis; and fur babies Missy and Louie. Juanita would also like to thank everyone for all your support through Larry’s illnesses during and after. Larry’s family will love and miss him always but this is not good bye.
