Scott Elliot Taylor February 2, 1950 - November 14, 2019 Scott Elliot Taylor was born on February 2, 1950 in Detroit Michigan. He was the oldest of three chil- dren born to Robert and Doris Taylor. Scott grew up in the Detroit area where he at- tended grade school and graduated from Redford Union High School. Scott joined the Air Force following his high school graduation and made it his lifetime career. Scott went through the ranks and retired as a Senior Master Sergeant. Following his retirement from Edwards Air- force Base in California, he and his wife, Judith moved to Wallowa Oregon. While living in Wallowa, Scott was a deputy for the Wallowa County Sheriff’s Department in Enterprise Oregon and served as a school resource officer for Wallowa County School District. Scott volunteered for a Christain Retreat called “Walk with Christ’’ four times a year where he worked in the kitchen as an all-round worker. Scott was a “jack of all trades and a master of none” and did whatever jobs needed doing in his home of Wallowa. Scott passed away on November 14, 2019 following a battle with cancer due to contact with Agent Orange during his time of service in Vietnam. Scott was preceded in death by his parents Robert and Doris Taylor and one sister Sally. He is survived by his wife Judith (Wallowa, OR), his sister Jill McCall (Prescott, AZ) and son Zachary Taylor (Hampton, VA) from a previous marriage. Memorial services for Scott will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, June 19, 2021 at Enterprise Cemetery, officiated by John Fitzpatric with full military honors. A luncheon will be held following the service at 12:00 noon, at the VFW Hall in Enterprise and all are welcome to attend. Wednesday, June 9, 2021 Lightning strike kills four horses; two men spared that was in the Hylton yard. The shot struck the dog and passed on through the animal and struck the boy, dealing him a mortal blow. OUT OF THE PAST Compiled by Cheryl Jenkins 100 YEARS AGO June 9, 1921 John Evans and his son, Paul, were seeding on land near their home near Lewis when a brief electric storm came up. The father and son crouched under the bed of their wagon for shelter. A bolt of lightning struck and four of their horses that were tied to the wagon were knocked down and killed. Other than a scorched eyebrow, the two men were not injured. The Enterprise Elec- tric company has set a new schedule of rates eff ective July 1. For residential use the minimum will be increased from $1.00 to $1.25 and 100 kilowatts will be increased from the current $5.25 to $6.10. Wild rumors have been fl ying regarding the new dam at Wallowa Lake. Investiga- tion has shown every rumor false. It has not broken nor shown a leak. The bullet struck Mrs. Davis near the spine on the right side of her body, rang- ing upward and coming out beneath and in front of her right arm. Her condition is considered quite good. Loren F. Marilyn Y. Davis Suarez, 76 of Joseph, passed away on Tuesday, June 1, 2021 at her residence. A full obituary will be published at a later time. May 22, 1937 - June 2, 2021 Bernadine Mae Price McGinnis, 84 of Scotts- dale, AZ passed away peacefully with her family at her side in the early morning of June 2, 2021. Grave- side services will be at Owyhee Cemetery, in Nyssa Oregon on Monday June 7, 2021 at 11:00 am. Bernadine was born May 22, 1937 in Adrian, Oregon to Ira and Clara Price. The Price family came to the Adrian Community in March of 1937 from Callaway, Nebraska. Bernadine was one of eight children who grew up on the family farm in Sunset Valley. It was here that she learned about hard work and developed strong values that served her well throughout her life. Bernadine attended Owyhee School from first to sixth grade. In seventh grade Bernadine transferred to Adrian School where she met James “Jim” McGinnis. She graduated from Adrian High School in 1955. Bernadine went to business school in Nampa, Idaho while her fiancé attended the College of Idaho. After a year’s separation the two reunited in Caldwell Idaho. She worked as a receptionist at a finance company while Jim finished his degree. On June 3, 1956 the two were married at Adrian Community Church in Adrian, Oregon. Over the next thirteen years they had four children. Bernadine and Jim spent their adult life in Joseph, Oregon, Toppenish, Washington and eventually Sitka, Alaska. While in Sitka, Bernadine was well known for her kindness and love for others. Bernadine was also a sought after child care provider on the island from 1981 to 2005. She touched the lives of many people and helped shape the lives of over 250 children. As a testament to her character, Bernadine stayed in touch with several kids she previously cared for until her final days. She and her husband also ran a pop- ular bed and breakfast from 1987 until 1998 where numerous people stayed while adventuring in Alaska. In the fall of 2005 the two retired to Medora, North Dakota where they finally fulfilled a lifelong dream of running a cattle ranch. After seven years in Medora the two traveled south to Scottsdale, Arizona where they spent their time visiting with their kids and grandchildren and enjoying the warm sunny days. Bernadine was preceded in death by her mother and father as well as her two brothers, Ira Price Jr and Kenneth Price and her two sisters Marian Robb and Joanne Share. She is survived by her loving husband of sixty five years, Jim McGinnis, her four children; James McGinnis III (Pam), Michelle Standerwick (Dave), Jill O’Neil (Tim) and Patrick McGinnis (Marlene) and her five grandchildren, Jared Standerwick, Bailey Schulz, Kristofer Ayers, Tatum Ayers and Lindsey McGinnis. She is also survived by her two sisters; Fern Groves and Shirley Robb, and one brother; Joel Price (Vicki). Family would like to extend their sincere thanks to Tina, Susanne, Trisha and the entire staff of Sunset Estates for their loving care of Bernadine over the past year. Alinda Luella “Lue” Miller April 16, 1924 - May 10, 2021 Alinda Luella “Lue” Miller, a long time Enter- prise resident, died at home on May 10, 2021, at the age of 97. Lue was born April 16, 1924, in Yakima, WA to Julie Loretta (Egan) Shafer and Robert Edwin Shafer. While most of her childhood was spent in the College Place, WA area, when she was six, her parents moved the family to Jamaica where her father served as University President, returning to the States when she was twelve. She attended Walla Walla Valley Academy, graduating in 1941 and then continued her education at Walla Walla College, graduating with a Degree as a Medical Technician. She married Doug Miller on September 10, 1944, while he was in Dental school, from which he graduated in 1946, and the two moved to Enterprise to start his practice. When Doug was called to serve during the Korean War in 1951, the family moved to Fort Lewis, WA, returning to Enterprise in 1953, where they raised their children. Lue was an accomplished pianist and organist, as well as violinist and taught lessons in the family home for many years. When the children were young, the family spent lots of time hiking and horse packing into the high lakes. As the children began to leave home for boarding school, Lue took a job working as a Medical Tech at Wallowa Memorial Hospital, eventually be- coming Director of the lab. Once she and Doug retired, they enjoyed frequent camping trips in their motorhome at various spots around the county. Lue loved to work outdoors in the yard and her many gardens, for years planting dozens of petunias to fill the terraces and gardens at their home with color. She is survived by her sister, Arlene Gifford (Jack) of Utah, daughter Suzanne of Milton-Freewater; son Bob of Vancouver, WA; daughter and son- in-law Gini and Don Sallee of Wallowa Lake; grandchildren Rachel and Jason of Vancouver, Melissa of Portland and Kyle of Washington DC, and great- grandchild, Savanna, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her son Jim Miller, her broth- er-in-law Jack Gifford and niece Julie Gifford, her sister, Zella Bryant and brother-in-law Boyd, her brother Bob Shafer, his son John, her in-laws, Guy and Halo Miller, her sister-in-law and brother-in-law Genevra and Tom Thompson, and her brother-in-law Gordon Miller and his daughter Kimi. Lue was a member of the Enterprise Seventh-day Adventist church, where she regularly played the organ or piano for services. In Lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Enterprise Seventh-day Adventist Church School.
