First Christian Church 840 10th Street Clarkston, WA Edward Ray Jones October 9, 1936 – April 22, 2021 Edward Ray Jones of Enterprise, Oregon much loved husband, daddy, and grandpa peacefully passed on April 22nd, 2021 at the age of 84. Edward was born on October 9th, 1936 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa to Donald and Clara Jones. Edward was preceded in death by his beautiful bride Helen Jones. Edward is survived by their children Douglas, Kevin, Marie Gorbett, and Rebecca Sterner, their eleven grand-children, and 20 great-grandchildren. Edward grew up in Iowa and California. But to his heart, Enterprise, Oregon was home, where he lived for 50 years. Helen and Ed met in high school in Chico, California and married on Octo- ber 15th, 1955. When Helen and Ed moved to Wallowa County they eventually fulfilled the dream of owning their own ranch and small business. Edwards outgoing personality and innate farm knowledge helped make the ranch and businesses what they are today. Edward was a loyal patriot. He served active duty as a military policeman in the United States Air Force Strategic Air Command. He also served in the reserve United State Air Force and the reserve National Guard as a loadmaster, flying in and out of the Vietnam Conflict. Edward was a ‘jack of all trades’ as most farmers are. He had worked as a map maker for the USGS, as a surveyor for the California Department of Agriculture, as a fertilizer salesman, and the dream fulfilling career as a fertil- izer/chemical business owner and farmer. Edward loved our mama, his family, the farm, and learning about any- thing and everything. He was an avid reader, always inquisitive, and never ever met a stranger! Edward was also very involved in the community during his years; with the Wallowa County Stockmen, the Wallowa County Fair, the Hurricane Creek Ditch Company, and the Rusty Nuts Car Crew. Our tough and gruff but sweet and gentle; Daddy, and Grandpa Ed will be sorely missed and told stories about for generations. A Celebration of Life memorial will be on Saturday May 1st, 2021 at 4:00 pm, at the Jones Ranch, Enterprise, OR. In lieu of flowers, please donate to your favorite charity. Tom G. Sangster February 17, 1947 – April 4, 2021 Tom G Sangster died 04/14/2021 at the age of 74 in Anatone, Washington. Tom was born 02/17/1947, in Clarkston, Washington and considered Anatone their hometown. Tom G. Sangster, age 74, passed away from respiratory failure at the family ranch in Anatone, WA on April 14, 2021. He was born on February 17, 1947 in Clarkston, WA to Jim and Gwen (Chrisman) Sangster. Tom was a 1965 graduate of Anatone High School. After graduating he went to work on the family ranch for several years. In 1967 Tom enlisted in the US Navy. He served a full tour in Vietnam. When he arrived home he went back to work on the ranch and remained in the Navy Reserves until being honorably discharged in 1972. Tom married his high school sweetheart, Nancy Mallory, on April 4, 1970. They had a son, Twain, on March 7, 1975 and then added one more son, Barry on August 28, 1980. Together, he and Nan- cy raised the boys and worked the family ranch. There were many years of working cattle, farming and putting up the supply of hay each summer. Many family and friends helped work the ranch, with Tom guiding each step of the way-just like his Grandma Neva. Tom can be credited with teaching not only his own children but an entire generation of local kids how to drive trucks and tractors, check engine oil, ride horses and navigate trails. In his later years his hobbies included watching lots of westerns and Shepherd’s Chapel. Tom was quite the character and loved to visit with any and every- one who would stop in at the ranch in Anatone. Tom never knew a stranger, especially when they needed his help. This could have been fixing a flat, pulling stranded families from a snow bank or giving a stranded person a ride to town. He was an integral part of the community and will be dearly missed by all that knew him. Tom is survived by his wife of 51 years, Nancy Sangster, sons Twain Sangster of Anatone, WA and Barry (Brandi) Sangster of Richland, OR. Brothers Rod Sangster of Anatone, WA and Carl Sang- ster of Lewiston, ID. Granddaughters Sydney and Addyson Sangster of Anatone, WA, Granddaughter Bailey Sangster and Grandson Jimmy Sangster of Richland, OR and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Tom was preceded in death by his parents Jim and Gwen Sangster, Brother Tim Sangster and Grandson Cody Sangster. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, May 29, 2021 at 11 AM at the Anatone, WA community hall. It will be a potluck lunch. No flowers please. Any donations can be made in Tom’s name to the United Methodist Church in Anatone, WA. As Tom would say, “See you in the movies!” Merchant Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Arthur Frank Reel March 5, 1931 – April 16, 2021 Arthur Frank Reel, 90, of Merlin, Oregon, passed away April 16, 2021. Art was born in Wallowa, Oregon, to Elvyn and Julia Reel on March 5, 1931. He graduated from Wallowa High School in 1949. Growing up, he was actively involved in the Future Farmers of America (FFA), worked in the local sawmills and helped in the farming operations of the Reel family ranch out- side of Wallowa. Throughout his life, Art was an avid hunter, fish- erman and ardent gardener. The rivers and rugged mountains surrounding Wallowa County provided the perfect environment for an energetic youth who loved adventure. No matter where he lived, he always found a way to pick up a fishing pole or found time to hunt on the family ranch. Art proudly served in the United States Air Force in the Korean War, stationed in Japan in the 548th Recon Tech Squadron as a photographic interpretation specialist from 1951 until 1955. Once back in the states and out of the service, Art began a successful career in the auto industry and in his later years, as a real estate broker. In 1971, Art met and married Ruth, the love of his life, and easily adapted to the role of “dad” to Ruth’s 3 children. Art & Ruth made close friendships wher- ever they lived or traveled. Art’s vegetable and flower gardens were legendary in the neighborhood, when harvest time meant fresh vegetables for several families. Art and Ruth moved to Merlin in 1996, where Art continued his real estate career until his retirement in the early 2000’s. In retirement, Art volunteered for many years with the OSU Master Gardeners, and was instrumental in building the Spring Garden Fair into a successful annual fundraising event. A garden watering can, his gloves and his kitty were always nearby. When not in the garden or volunteering, he loved caring for numerous deer, squirrels and birds that came through the yard every day, expecting the treats that Art loved to supply. He also spent countless hours researching the family’s ancestry, communicating and building relationships with people all around the world. Art is survived by his 3 children; daughter Cathleen Welling of Willits, California; sons Pete (Suzy) Reel of Merlin, Oregon, and Andrew (David Collins) Reel of Reno, Nevada; 7 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and his brother, Ray (Carolyn) Reel of Lewiston, Idaho; a nephew and 2 nieces, whom he loved dearly. Art was one of the most caring and gentle souls you could ever hope to meet, with a quick wit and healthy sense of humor. He had a remarkable ability to maintain a positive attitude in even the most stressful of situations. His legacy is one of caring for all creatures and love for one another. A private family celebration of Art’s life will be scheduled later this year. IN BRIEF Wyden plans online town halls this weekend PORTLAND — U.S. Sen.
