Wallowa County
Cultural Trust
grants available
JOSEPH — Oregon is
the only state in the union
that provides a 100 percent
tax credit to inspire cultural
giving. Via the Oregon Cul-
tural Trust, these funds are
distributed across the state,
protecting and promoting
cultural vitality from Enter-
prise to Portland.
This funding is distrib-
uted on a local level with
the aid of 45 county and
tribal coalitions across the
state. Using these funds the
Wallowa County Cultural
Trust Coalition (WCCTC)
is pleased to announce that
$6,000 dollars in grants for
the 2019 season have been
awarded to six organiza-
tions: Fishtrap, The Jose-
phy Center for Arts & Cul-
ture, MidValley Theatre,
Nez Perce Wallowa Home-
land & Chief Joseph Days’
Encampment,
Wallowa
Mountain Quilters’ Guild,
and Wallowa Valley Music
Alliance.
The WCCTC was
founded in 2004 to facili-
tate funding local projects
in arts, heritage and human-
ities with grant money
from the Oregon Cultural
Trust. WCCTC grants are
typically $250-$1,000 and
support projects that pro-
mote and strengthen Wal-
lowa County culture.
Applications are cur-
rently available for 2020
online at wallowavalley-
arts.org or can be requested
by email at WCCTCoa-
lition@gmail.com.
The
applications are due Octo-
ber 31, 2019.
Purchasing an Oregon
Cultural Trust license plate
from the DMV is one way
to support the Trust (and
your local artisans). There
will be a reduction in Ore-
gon Cultural Trust grant
making for the 2020 fund-
ing cycle unless there is a
statewide increase in sup-
port by June 30.

By Denine Rautenstrauch

The Enterprise Public Library was
awarded an $800 matching grant for
children’s books from the Pilcrow
Foundation. Wallowa County Soropti-

$400 as the matching amount. “With

The Enterprise Public Library now
has the books ready for checkout.
The variety of books includes fi ction
and non-fi ction, and books for ages 4
through young adult. Titles include
“The Girl who Drew Butterfl ies,” by
Joyce Sidman, which won the Robert
F. Sibert Medal.
Other noteworthy additions to the
library’s collection include “When the
Whales Walked,” a non-fi ction sci-

Home in the Barn,” an exquisitely-il-
lustrated book for younger readers by
Jerry Pinkney; and “Basketballology:
Super Cool Facts about Basketball,”
by Kevin Sylvester.
“They are all great reading for kids,”
Rautenstrauch said. “It’s fun, fun, fun

The July 4th fireworks will soon be upon us. We have a long ways to go
to reach our goal. We need $13,500 for the fireworks and $500 for public
services.
David Jensen
So far we have raised $5,579
We are asking residents and businesses to support the fireworks with a
donation of $25, $50 or $100 or more. This amount, when added together
with all of the other fundraising activities, will make it possible to pay
for insurance, public services, and the support of the fireworks crew. All
donations of $25 or greater will be entered into a drawing to win a two
person Jet Boat Trip in Hells Canyon. This year Beamer’s Landing has
provided the drawing prize.
ALL DONATIONS ARE IMPORTANT.
Fireworks will be Thursday, July 4 at approximately 10 PM
