A2 ANNOUNCEMENTS Wallowa County Chieftain Wednesday, June 12, 2019 OBITUARIES Jerry Radke Anthony Lee Frances Marie Perren April 29, 1933–May 13, 2019 June 19, 1946– February 16, 2019 May 1, 1929–May 29, 2019 Jerry V. Raedeke, 86, of Enterprise, Oregon, passed away and went to be with Jesus on Monday, May 13, 2019. He was born April 29, 1933, in Cal- gary, Alberta, Canada, to Wal- ter and Esther Raedeke, the youngest of 4 sons. He mar- ried Jennie Heral on Jan- uary 25, 1983. She preceded him in death on February 7, 2019. Surviving are fi ve children, Elaine (Dan) Meyer of Rockton, IL, Mark (Maria) Raedeke of Rockford, IL, Paul (Mar- ilyn) Raedeke of Ger- mantown, MD, Rhonda Raedeke of Rockton, IL, and Amy (Paul) English of Washington, IL, and eight grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, and three brothers. Jerry attended Concor- dia University, and taught for several years in paro- chial schools before hear- ing God’s call to preach the good news of Christ from the pulpit. He attended Concordia Theo- logic Seminary, and pas- tored at Trinity Lutheran Church in North Morris- town, MN and Christ Our Savior Lutheran Church in Roscoe, IL. Jerry loved the mountains and rural life, which reminded him of his childhood, and came sight unseen to serve as pastor at Grace Lutheran Church in Enterprise. He also served at Lostine Presby- terian Church and Enter- prise Community Chris- tian Church. Jerry had a great love for people, and didn’t know a stranger in the area. He had a gift for connect- ing with people, taking an inter- est in them and sharing God’s love in tangi- ble ways. His easy-going manner helped him con- vey the truths of the Bible so everyone could under- stand them. He was coun- selor and confi dant, walk- ing through diffi cult times with many, as well as cel- ebrating their joys. Jerry was a true ser- vant, and often fi lled the pulpit as interim pastor for many area churches while they were looking for full- time ministers. He pre- formed many weddings and funerals throughout the extended community, often joking, “I’m called the marrying and burying preacher.” His ministry motto was, “accept peo- ple where they are”, and then live Christ in front of them. He did just that, pointing people to Jesus, and His great love and forgiveness. A memorial service will be held on Wednes- day, June 19, at 1 p.m. at Enterprise Community Christian Church. He was very proud to be part of a few trials that ended up with medicine being made avail- able to the pub- lic to treat CLL. Although his CLL was under con- trol at the time of his death, other health issues became a factor. Tony had many enjoy- ments during his 55 years he spent with Marcy. In the early years it was bowling, bike riding, camping and then there were horses and horse shows with daughter, Jennifer. The love for ani- mals was constant through out his life, he always had a dog at his side. But spending time with his family is what he cherished most of all. Other than his love for Marcy, Tony’s main reason to fi ght CLL was his pure enjoyment of watching his family grow. He loved his grandchildren! He loved to spoil them with gifts, candy, and especially good south- ern cooked food.
