A2 Wallowa County Chieftain ANNOUNCEMENTS Wednesday, March 27, 2019 OBITUARIES Nicholi Fisher May 16, 1963 — Feb. 26, 2019 Jeri Lynn Gilliland March 12, 2019 — June 16, 1956 Randy Black Aug. 17, 1947 — March 15, 2019 Nicholi and her dog, Shuga moved to Wallowa County in 2016. She lived in many different locations in the county until she found an apartment in the M&M build- ing in 2017. She loved her apartment, especially the large rooms and her large bathroom. She attended the Summit Church and they helped her a lot with moving into her different homes. She was diagnosed with MS in 2017 and had a few caregivers until Barbara Roberts started working for her April 15, 2017, and they did a lot together — driving to different spots in the county for picnics. She especially liked going to the Minam State Park, Joseph Creek Look- out, Imnaha, Wallowa Lake picnic areas, and the Joseph park. Nicholi took many pictures wherever they went and posted them on Facebook. She wanted her family to see the beautiful place she lived. She had surgery on a tumor on her spine in August 2017 and was left with numbness and pain in her legs. She got an electric wheelchair in 2018 and could go all over with it. In March 2018, she moved into an apartment at the Park Street Apartments and had a beautiful view of the moun- tains. She said Wallowa County was a soothing place to live and was able to recover from her past. She loved to write poetry and read her poems at the Summit Church each month. She changed to the Abun- dant Life Assembly of God church for a short time and started going to the Nazarene Church and became a mem- ber in January 2019. She really enjoyed the church and said everyone welcomed her and had a lot of friends. She was able to read her poems again at the church too. Barbara worked for her until October 31, 2018, but had to retire for health reasons, but she still was a friend and they did a lot together. She had a good friend and neighbor, Roland Uppiano, who took her to church and took her shopping and for eve- ning drives. He helped her a lot. Her last caregiver was Annette Lewis, who only worked a few months, but they had some good times, too. She had a lot of support and considered everyone friends, especially Amy — her case manager, Tyler — Her Physical Therapist, Her neighbor Katherine, Joan Gray, the people from the Soroptomists, and especially Roland. Services were held on March 16 at the Nazarene Church. Jeri Lynn Gilliland, 62 of La Grande, passed away on Tuesday, March 12, 2019 at Grande Ronde Hospital. A Memorial Service will be held in Enterprise sometime in June. A notice will be sent later. Jeri was born on June 16, 1956, in Terre Haute, Indiana to Gareld and Mary Ellen (Schwab) Dersch. She resided in Terre Haute, Indiana; Hermiston, Oregon; Portland, Oregon; Enterprise, Oregon and La Grande, Oregon. She graduated from Terre Haute North Vigo High School. She served our country while in the United States Air Force serving as a Military Policeman. She married Jon Gilliland Jeri Lynn Gilliland and they were married for 32 years. Jeri was employed at Pendleton Woolen Mills, Terry Trailers, and Department of Human Services counseling disabled couples. She enjoyed pho- tography, and horseback riding. Her greatest achievement was fi nding her husband, Jon, and having two children after breaking her neck and becoming paralyzed and doc- tors telling her she would never have children. Jeri is survived by her husband, Jon; children, Erik Gil- liland (Taylor) of Athena, Oregon, Kirstin Gilliland (Ian Buzbee) of La Grande, Oregon, and Jillian Tye, of La Grande, Oregon; sisters, Beth DeFrance (John) of Colo- rado Springs, Colorado, and Sue Weger of Terre Haute, Indiana; brothers, Gary Dersch and Jack Dersch of Terre Haute, Indiana and fi ve grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Gareld and Mary Ellen; sisters, Bon- nie England and Kay Jones and brother, Wayne Compton. Online condolences may be made to the family at www.lovelandfuneralchapel.com. It was December of 1946. Randall and Agnes Black were headed to Baker, Oregon for Randall to run errands and for Agnes to see the doctor. On the way home Ran- dall asked her what the doctor had said and she responded with “I’m pregnant!” He drove the car through the bar pit! Mind you, they were in their 40s and both had grown children with children. On August 17, 1947 little Randy Dean Black was born in Baker, Oregon. He had an idyllic childhood roaming the hills and valleys, riding horses, mak- ing mischief in Thief Valley, Oregon. Randy graduated from North Powder High School in 1965. Randy Randy Black joined the Marines and went to Viet- nam for his service and was hon- orably discharged on August of 1969. He went to the University of Idaho and graduated with a Bachelor in Agriculture in 1972. Randy enjoyed working in that fi eld until his retirement. He would often go for drives for many years, checking out the farm fi elds. Randy was married to Connie Provost. They had three children: Jodi Black-Snook, Brent Black (m.Tami), and Erika Patton (m.Damien). Connie and Randy later parted ways. Lo and behold, he came to a family gathering with Leonie on his arm. She brought Charity Kates (m. Marv), April Hughes (m. Jack), Chris Smith (m.Paula) and Ben Smith (m.Brandee) to join the family too. Randy is survived by his sister, Jewell Gates and numerous grandkids, nieces and nephews. He loved them all. He never met a stranger and enjoyed visiting, playing cards, reading. His favorite card playing buddies were the YMCA ladies and Steve Combes at home. We appreciate all the folks who helped him especially Dr. Matt Stroemel, Dr. Holly Isenhouer and Walla Walla Community Hospice.
