Lady Cougs claw
opponents, boys split

T
he lady Cougars clawed their way into
third place with a pair of victories over
Griswold and Cove on Jan. 18-19. The
boys overcame the Grizzlies, but fell to
Cove in their games.
Friday, Jan. 18 saw the lady Cougs travel to Gris-
wold to scratch the hide off the Grizzlies in a 42-33
win. The Cougars led all the way, 10-6 at the first
quarter, 23-17 at the half and 36-22 at the end of
three quarters.
Shanna Rae Tillery led the scoring with 13
points, followed by Jamie Johnston with nine while
Kyla Hook added six.
The Cove Leopards suffered a similar fate the
following day, succumbing 46-32 at the Cougar’s
lair. The game had several lead changes as the Cou-
gars led 12-9 at the first quarter but trailed 20-16
at the half, then led again 30-28 at the end of three
quarters.
Tillery again led scoring with 14 points, followed
by Hook and Johnston with eight in the team effort.
Ella Moeller scored six points.
The victories left the ladies with sole possession
of third place in the Old Oregon League with a 4-2
league record and 7-8 overall. They next play at
Elgin on Friday, Jan. 25.

The boys started out strong with a convincing
57-37 win over the Grizzlies. The Cougars battled
their way to a 12-11 lead at the first quarter buzzer,
33-18 at the half and 43-28 at the third, coasting to
the win.
Christopher Nobles led the Cougar attack with
27 points. Tristin Bales and Wyatt Prince chipped in
eight apiece while Zeb Hermens scored seven points
and Ryan Hafer had five.
The boys took on the Cove Leopards the follow-
ing day but came away with a 40-29 loss. The Cou-
gars trailed the entire game, 11-7 at the first quarter,
20-17 at the half and 33-20 after the third.
Nobles hit the target for 13 points, followed by
Wyatt Prince with seven and Bales tallied six for the
game.
The week left the Cougars 2-4 on the season and
5-11 overall. They also play Elgin next on Jan. 25.
