A2 ANNOUNCEMENTS Wallowa County Chieftain Wednesday, January 1, 2020 OBITUARIES Dona Carol Elliott Ruth Edra Kriwox Marilyn Goebel July 29, 1937-December 16, 2019 March 12, 1924-December 20, 2019 June 8, 1933-December 15, 2019 Dona Carol Elliott passed away peacefully at home on Monday, Dec. 16, 2019. On July 29, 1937, Dona was born in Enterprise to Edgar and Leona (Thornburg) Gildersleeve of Imnaha, and joined her sis- ter, Pat. She attended the one-room school until 1949 when the family moved to Enter- prise. She graduated from Enterprise High School in 1954 and married Jim Elliott Dec. 26, 1955. Dona loved riding horses and being around her animals. She was a real estate agent, cler- ical worker and most importantly, a loving wife, mom, grandma and great-grandma. She also enjoyed getting together with her friends for Bible study. Surviving rel- atives include her husband Jim; daughters Trisa (Jess) Bar- ton of Joseph, Laurie Elliott of Selah, Wash. and son Dave (Tera) Elliott of Enterprise; six grandchildren: Rikki, Todd (Brittany), Nathan (Valerie), Tilli (Reece), Davi (Justin) and Carsen; 11 great-grandchildren; her sister Pat (Ken) Stein and numerous other fam- ily members. Dona had a deep love for the Lord and will be greatly missed. Ruth Edra Kriwox, a res- ident of Wallowa County for 95 years, passed away Sat- urday, December 20, 2019, near her family in Twin Falls, Idaho. Ruth was born to Atha and Effi e Hale at Enterprise, Oregon on March 12, 1924. Ruth attended schools in Enterprise and graduated from Wallowa High School in 1943. For a time during World War II she worked at the shipyards in northwestern Washington. After the war, Ruth returned to Wallowa where she met John M. Kriwox, a timber faller from upstate New York who was on his way to Alaska. He never made it any farther and he and Ruth were married in Lewiston, Idaho, on July 21,1947. Ruth and John made their home in Wallowa, she a homemaker and he a logger. They raised two children at their small farm on Bear Creek. Ruth is survived by her son, AJ, and daughter-in-law, Jean Kriwox of Jerome, Idaho, four grandchildren and six great-grand- children and son- in-law, Bill Love. Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, a brother Ken- neth, her husband John and her daughter Deborah. Ruth was well known around Wallowa for her abundant garden and beauti- ful fl ower beds. Ruth will be interred beside her husband of 69 years at Bramlet Cemetary in Wallowa. ABOUT OBITUARIES News obituaries are a free service of the Wallowa County Chieftain. Marilyn is survived by brother Jack Purkey(Ger- alyn) of Tacoma, Wash., brother-in-law Jack Goebel (Janet) of Wallowa, her fi ve children and their families Sally Goebel of Wallowa, Patti Goebel of Joseph, Mary Goebel Adams, her husband Mark and grand- daughter Alyvia of Rogue River, Ed Goebel of Joseph and his son, Colby Goebel of Albany, Katie (Goebel) Summerlin of Corvallis and her three children — Keyadri, Mihaniel and Nar- iamné, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was pre- ceded in death by her hus- band, Leo R. Goebel, broth- er-in-law Harold Goebel (Peggy) of Wallowa and sister-in-law, Geri (Marie) Wiecks (Jack) of San Mateo, Calif. W a l l o w a A s s e m b l y o f G o d C h u r c h 2 0 5 S A l d e r S t . Marilyn (Purkey) Goebel, age 86, died at Wal- lowa Memorial Hospital on Sunday, Dec. 15, 2019. She was buried on the family prop- erty outside of Wallowa, Ore. She was born in Tacoma, Wash. and was raised in Coquille, Ore. She graduated from the Univer- sity of Oregon with a degree in geography/geology. She was working as a cartogra- pher in Eugene when she met and married her hus- band, Leo R. Goebel of Wallowa. After Leo fi n- ished his master’s degree at University of Oregon, he and Marilyn moved to Wal- lowa County, where Leo worked as a school teacher and Marilyn raised their fi ve children. Marilyn was an avid photographer and member of the Wallowa Valley Pho- tography Club. She often shared her beautiful photo- graphs of Wallowa Lake on Facebook. She also shared her pictures at the Wal- lowa County Fair and in the annual Photo Club Calen- dar. She had a life-long love of the outdoors and garden- ing. She planted dozens of fruit and nut trees as well as dozens of berry bushes at her property on Wallowa Lake. She shared the annual bounty with friends, fam- ily and with the Wallowa County Magic Garden. She was a member of the local garden club. Marilyn was interested in the connection between diet and disease. Evelyn’s funeral will be at St. Katherine’s Catho- lic Church in Enterprise on Saturday, Jan. 4, at 11 a.m., with burial following. In lieu of fl owers, Evelyn wished donations to be made to New Day Enter- prises in La Grande. Bollman Funeral Home is entrusted with arrangements. Evelyn Irene McFetridge passed away on Sunday, Dec. 15,2019, in La Grande. She was born April 19, 1944, to Wayne and Irene McFetridge in Enterprise. Evelyn never knew a stranger. She enjoyed meet- ing everyone and always had lots to say, along with her happy smile. She loved to tease, to do jigsaw puz- zles and to beat family members in any card game. Evelyn always loved life and lived it to the full- est, despite her disabilities. She was always the fi rst one awake on Christmas mornings.
