Wallowa High School varsity football
team’s season came to an end Saturday in
Hermiston with a 16-46 loss to powerhouse St.
Paul.
It was the second time this season the two teams had
met, St. Paul finished on top in both.
The semifinal round of the 1A football championship
was played in near-perfect weather with a large contin-
gency of fans in the stands.
St. Paul scored in the first quarter, Wallowa added a
touchdown on a six-yard pass from quarterback Gus
Ramsden to Wyatt Prince.
ALL LEAGUE PLAYERS NAMED
Wallowa Cougars were well-represented in
the 2018 Old Oregon League all-league team.
Runningback Austin Brockamp was named
to first team offensive and quarterback Gus
Ramsden, Zeb Ramsden and Michael Diggins
were named to second team. Five Cougars made
first team defensive — Brockamp, Gus Ramsden,
Zeb Ramsden, Joe Robb and Wyatt Prince. Zane
Hermens made the second team defense. Corsin
Risi was named to second team and Ricardo
Palma received honorable mention.
The next five changes on the leader board were on the
Buckaroo side. Wallowa came back with one final touch-
down late in the game, this time an eight-yard pass from
Ramsden to Prince.
St. Paul amassed 551 total yards in the game to Wal-
lowa’s 225. The telling tale was in passing yards –– St.
Paul had 242 to Wallowa’s 78.
As he has done much of the season, senior Austin
Brockamp led the rushing effort with 77 yards. Ramsden
added 63 and Zeb Ramsden 17.
Gus Ramsden anchored the defensive effort, as well,
with eight tackles and seven assists. Brockamp had five
tackles and eight assists, Zeb Hermens five tackles and
Zeb Ramsden, Jesse Duncan and Joe Robb each had four.
St. Paul will face Dufur for the 1A championship Nov.
24 at Hillsboro, Ore.
Wallowa finishes the season with a 9-3 record overall,
undefeated in 1A Old Oregon League play.
