And then there was one
Eagles only a game away
from perfect season

The Mitchell/Spray/Wheeler foot-
ball team is the only thing standing
between Joseph High School’s squad
and an undefeated inaugural six-man
season.
The Eagles walked all over Harper
Charter Oct. 12, coming away with a
convincing 31-6 win.
Led by Tyler Homan, Joseph ran
36 rushing plays and completed nine
passes for a total of 377 yards against
Harper. Homan had 19 carries for 172
yards and scored four of the team’s
touchdowns.
Trey Wandschneider had three
catches for 57 yards and 1 touch-
down, TJ Grote had three catches for
29 yards and an extra point.
The Eagles held Harper to 113
yards passing, 117 yards rushing and
a single touchdown.
Homan led with 10 tackles, Guylan
Snyder had seven and Steven had six.
Wandschneider had 6.5 tackles,
4.5 were tackles for loss.
“He spent a lot of time in their
backfield,” Coach Duncan Christman
said.
Wandschneider added two blocked
passes and a few hurries, Grote con-
tributed a pass breakup.
Mitchell/Spray Wheeler has two
wins and four losses thus far into the
season.
While there will not be formal
state playoffs in the six-man league,
Christman hopes to organize a sea-
son-ending game of some type to cel-
ebrate Joseph’s success.
The final regular-season game is 1
p.m. Friday, Oct. 19.

Wallowa likely to have undefeated league season
Cove is the last
hurdle for Cougs

Wallowa County Chieftain
With only one regular season
game remaining, it appears likely
Wallowa High School’s football
team will go undefeated in league
play this season.
The Cougars will travel to Cove
(2-3) 7 p.m. Oct. 19.
Wallowa’s sixth league win of the
season came Oct. 12 against a power-
ful Crane team, 34-20, the most any
squad has scored against the Cougars
this season. The win solidified the
team’s first-place standing in the 1A
Special District 3 - East and sets them
up for a strong post-season bid.
Despite two touchdowns in the
fourth quarter, Crane could not over-
come five Wallowa touchdowns in
the first three stanzas.
The team’s two standout seniors
–– Austin Brockamp and Gus Rams-
den –– had stellar performances.
Brockamp led stats with 183 yards
rushing, including two touchdowns.
Ramsden pushed for 133 yards
and was credited with three touch-
downs. Zeb Ramsden added 22 yards
rushing.

Gus Ramsden continued to work
on his passing game, throwing five
times for 11 completions and 94
yards. Brother Zeb was on the receiv-
ing end for 50 yards, Brockamp 25
and Tristin Bales 19.
Gus Ramsden led the defensive
effort with seven tackles and three
asists. Three teammates also had a
strong defense effort.
Jesse Duncan was credited with
six tackles and four assists, Joe Robb
had five tackles and two assists and
Mason Moore had six tackles.
Brockamp added four tackles and
four assists and Zeb Hermens one
tackle and two assists to round out
the defensive effort.
Pairings for state playoffs should
be available next week.
Wallowa’s only loss this season
was a nonleague game against pow-
erhouse St. Paul.
