COMING LABOR DAY WEEKEND
A DECADE OF JUNIPER JAMS
Salute to original
music of all
types, varieties
Juniper Jam –– the sweetest
little music festival in Eastern
Oregon –– comes to the Wal-
lowa County Fairgrounds Sat-
urday, Sept. 1.
This will be the 10th year
Wallowa Valley Music Alli-
ance has produced the concert.
Music begins 11 a.m. and
continues nonstop on two
stages until around 10 p.m.
Festival-goers will enjoy many
styles of music including folk,
country, Americana, roots, and
rock and blues, as well as great
food and drink, local artisans
and children’s activities.
The common thread is orig-
inal music –– honoring the
song and its writer.
This year’s lineup includes
TK and the Holy Know-Noth-
ings, featuring Portland song-
writer Taylor Kingman sur-
rounded by an all-star band
— Jay Cobb Anderson and
Tyler Thompson (Fruition),
Joshua Simon (Shook Twins)
and Lewi Longmire (Left
Coast Roasters, Brothers and
Sister).
The group recorded a live
album at the OK Theatre last
December with engineer Bart
Budwig, which is due out
soon.
The Don of Division Street
fronted by Matt Cadenelli and
featuring guitarist Anita Lee
Elliot will perform along with
her band, Anita Lee and the

Handsome 3.
“This is one of the most
exciting things about this
year’s lineup –– the cross-pol-
lination between bands,” said
festival director Janis Carper.
“It really emphasizes the ‘jam’
in Juniper Jam.”
A total of 15 will perform.
Others on the list include
Shane Cooley and the Mid-
night Girls from Austin,
Texas; alternative rock from
The Mondegreens of Seattle;
some rootsy soul from The Get
Ahead from Portland.
Wallowa County favorite
Kory Quinn Band from Port-
land will return, and the event
will welcome newcomer Mary
Serenade winner.
The young duo, Brother
Busk of Portland will also be
on hand.
The traditional opening
Tunesmith Round will feature
Jay Cobb Anderson (Fruition),
Tommy Alexander and Tracy
Spring.

“There are many wonder-
Bragg from Nashville, who ful music festivals in Oregon,
was the 2017 MerleFest Chris but Juniper Jam is the only
Austin Songwriting Contest one in the region that offers
winner and 2018 Songwriter exclusively original music,”
said Carper. “We’ve been at it
for 10 years, and it’s always a
thrill to see it come together,
