The Family of Nadine would like you to join them for a grave- side service 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 4, at the Enterprise Cemetery. Immediately following the service, we will go directly to Wallowa Lake and meet at the lakeside picnic area for a barbecue. We look forward to seeing many friends and family join us while we reflect back and share our memories of this amazing lady. Nadine was born in Joseph the daughter of Jesse and Inez (Morgan) Crader. She was raised along the Imnaha and had great memories and stories to pass down to the family on how much fun it was growing up on the river. Nadine and the family then moved to Joseph, and she graduated from Joseph High School in 1950. While living in Joseph she had worked at the Gold Room and the Shake Shack that her mother Inez owned. She recalled that their home was the place that her high school classmates would gather and have a great time, especially on weekends. While working for Walter Brennan at the Rainbow Theater, she met the love of her life Don Henry. He was the projectionist and she sold tickets and popcorn. On Nov. 25, 1952, she married Donald L. Henry in Lewiston, Idaho. When Don went to Alaska while in the U.S. Army, they had their first-born Donna. In 1954 they moved back to Joseph and had their second child Reta. They then moved to La Grande in 1960 where they had their last girl Sherry. Nadine worked at Mt. Emily Lumber, sold real estate and beginning in 1971, she and Don owned and operated the Black Anvil Tavern until 1977. She then went to work at Terry travel trailers as a cabinet maker. She loved the outdoors, camping and especially loved to go on long walks and hiking anywhere she could. She especially loved spending time with her family and doted over her three grandchildren. She loved crafting and sewing, and Nadine was a huge animal lover and always had dogs, cats and even a talking Mina bird. Survivors include her children, Donna and David Lewis of Union, Reta and Rocky Smith of Lakeside, Mont., and Sherry and Greg Beickel of Portland; three grandchildren, Cindy, Garrett and Ethan, and brother-in-law Chris Christensen and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by Don in 2015 and sis- ters Gladys Nobles and Norma Barton. Memorial contributions may be made to the Blue Mountain Humane Association in care of Daniels-Knopp Funeral, Crema- tion and Life Celebration Center.
