Main • 541.426.3351 always open at www.bookloftoregon.com • bookloft@eoni.com With sad regrets, we are announcing that the M. Crow store is shutting down. As was the situation when the Crow family originally planned to close in 2013, the store simply doesn’t do enough business to sustain itself. The M. Crow project of developing products made with Wallowa County resources and labor is slow but flourishing and is still very much a commitment and focus of owner Tyler Hays. When this project becomes profitable enough to sustain the losses of the store it may be able to reopen. We thank all of our customers for their support and understanding. Wallowa County Court- house will be the location of two celebrations May 30 –– the retirement of Circuit Court Judge Russell B. West and the formal unveiling of the recent remodel of the building. Festivities are 3-5 p.m. in the courtroom. The public is invited. West has served since Jan- uary 2003 and previously was Union County District Attor- ney 1985-2002. West will continue to serve as a senior judge for five more years, sitting as a judge pro tem for 35 days each year. Six candidates have submit- ted an interest in the appoint- ment to Gov. Kate Brown. Her office would not confirm the identity of the candi- dates or the date a selec- tion would be West made. A $1.25 million state grant paid for renovation of the courthouse safety and electrical, as well as adding an Americans With Disabilities Act elevator. Another $700,000 was spent on the roof. The elevator has a six-person capacity and is propelled by hydraulic cylin- ders rather than a cable. The project began last June. The south parking lot at the courthouse has been closed much of the past year. The third floor of the building, which had most recently been used for stor- age, has been turned into offices for Wallowa County Commissioners. O BITUARIES Beverly K.
