By Paul Wahl Wallowa County Chieftain Enterprise High School walked away with its share of medals in the State Track Meet last week in Eugene. Among the gold finish- ers was the boys 4x400 Relay. The team of Shane Lund, Fos- ter Hobbs, Justus Even and James Madsen streaked across the finish line in 3:33.26, more than two seconds ahead of the second-place Bandon team. It was their best time of the year, a good example of peaking at exactly the right moment, according to coach Dan Moody. “It was truly a team effort as each leg set of the next one going faster and faster,” Moody added. The finish time was eight seconds faster than their dis- trict meet time. The girls 4x400 Relay team of Eliza Irish, Shelby Mon- crief, Karli Bedard and Riley Gray also came hold with gold medals. They narrowly edged out second-place St. Paul post- ing a 4:13.29. Moody said the team has performed well all year and was expected to do well. Moncrief and Bedard are juniors and will be returning for next season. Ethan Burns, a student from Wallowa High School, nabbed first in the javelin with a toss four inches better than the second-place throw. Burns posted a 162-6. Burns also placed 11th in the shot put. Moncrief placed seventh in the 200 M and Gray was sec- TINGELSTAD STANDOUT FOR JOSEPH AT STATE By Paul Wahl Wallowa County Chieftain Foster Hobbs and Shane Lund of Enterprise run in the 4x100 Relay. ond in the 400 M. The 4x100 M team of Mad- sen, Even, Lund and Hobbs placed fourth. Other boys who placed included Brett Greenshields, ninth in long jump and 10th in triple jump; Dylan Marr, ninth in high jump; and Blaze Lep- per, fifth in shot put. Moody said he was pleased with the performances turned in. He noted a good number of state participants will be back next year as seasoned veterans. “We should be sitting pretty good,” he added. A Tingelstad has won the state title in the 3000 M each of the past three years. It hap- pened again this year, but this time with Ellyse Tingelstad instead of her sister Isabelle. Ellyse turned in a 10:49.28, nearly a half-minute faster than the second-place finisher. She also topped her sister’s best time in the event. Ellyse posted a 4:57.75 to win the gold in the 1500, just short of the meet record 4:55. Other finishers for the Lady Eagles included Ella Coughlan, ninth in the 400 M and fourth in the 3000 M; and Camille Crenshaw, ninth in the 800 M. The boys were paced by Juston Rogers who turned in a fourth in the 800 M and Tyler Homan, also fourth in the 300 Hurdles. The 4x100 Relay team of William Caldwell, Rog- ers, Homan and Miguel Liz- asoain took seventh and the 4x400 Relay team of Cald- well, Rogers, Joah VanDoozer and Homan were also seventh in that event.
