Ed Staub & Sons Energy Community Service. Mildred Joan Nash was born November 6, 1937, at home on the old Foster Ranch. Her birth certif- icate simply says, “2 miles North” of Joseph. Her parents were Etha (Laird) and Lyle Foster. She was the younger of two children. Her brother, Jack Foster, survives her. As a young girl on the farm everyone called her “JoAnn” or “Jo” and she often said growing up in Wallowa County was the best childhood anybody could ask for. In high school she was a cheer- leader, a 4H member, and was involved in many other clubs and activities. She graduated from Joseph High School in 1955. 201 East Hwy 82 Enterprise, OR 97828 541-426-0320 PET OF THE WEEK Brought to you by Main Street Motors Meet After high school she married, and between the birth of her son Jerry Wayne and her daughter Merla Jo, she graduated from Napa Business College and worked as a bookkeeper. She also got her radio broadcast license and became a DJ in Pasco, WA. Garfield Born in May of 2017. Garfield is a neutered male, orange tabby who likes a little one-on-one time sitting on your lap. He likes other animals including dogs and loves to play with his toys. Litter box trained, de-wormed and up to date on his vaccinations. When her marriage ended she moved her two children to Portland, where she met the love of her life, Al Nash, and his little son, George Henry. Al and Jo were married in January 1962, and their daughter Cindy Lee was born that fall. Together they raised four children and ran two businesses. They worked hard, but always found time to play and to hunt and fish. The whole family enjoyed trips to the local rivers and lakes and to the Oregon Coast for fishing, crabbing and just plain fun. Annual hunts in Wallowa County brought elk, deer, game birds and even mushrooms to the family table. Although she lived in Portland, her heart remained in Joseph. In 1990 she returned. Al and Jo moved their carpet cleaning business to Joseph, and had nine wonderful years together, until Al died in a car crash near Enterprise in December 1999. Jo continued to run Aladdin Carpet Cleaners with the help of her dear friend Mike Teece. In 2001, after selling the business and retiring, she did some travelling and then began to spend winters in Arizona with her wonderful boyfriend, Vic- tor Moore. After Vic passed away in 2012, Jo stayed closer to home and family. In June 2016, health issues brought Jo back to the Portland area. She rented a house in Milwaukie with her daughters, and many grandchildren and great grandchildren came to visit. Mildred Joan Nash died peacefully at home in bed on December 2, 2017. She was 80-years-old. Family and friends will always remember her infectious smile, and all the delicious meals and delectable fudge, cookies, cakes & pies she was often whipping up. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lyle Irving Foster and Etha Mildred Foster, her husband Albert Leonard Nash, and her sons George Henry Nash and Jerry Wayne Nash. She is survived by her brother, Jack David Foster, her daughters, Merla Jo Lewis and Cindy Lee Johnson, and nine grandchildren, and nine great grandchildren. A celebration of life will be 11 a.m. Saturday, May 19, at the Enterprise Christian Church on Hwy. 82 between Enter- prise and Joseph. Jack was born to Ora and Helen (Green) Pace at home on Prairie Creek. Jack learned the meaning of hard work while growing up on Crow Creek and Elk Moun- tain ranches. After graduating eighth grade from Pratt School, Pace Jack ranched for his dad, worked for the Dorrance Ranch, enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps and was stationed in Okinawa at the end of WWII. Upon returning home from the service, Jack met and mar- ried the love of his life, Dorothy Ann Reynolds, June 20, 1948, in Enterprise. They had four sons: Swede (Debbie), Jim (Les- lie), Bob (Mary Kay) and Duff (Linda). Their early years together were lived in logging camps and Troy before finally locating on Depot St. in Enterprise. Jack worked for several Wallowa County logging compa- nies and the Wallowa County Road Department. He finished his working career operating a D-8 Cat for Moffit Bros. of Lostine. His final job was punching out the Hells Canyon Overlook off the 39 Road. He loved to operate heavy machinery, fish, hunt, paint, sing, ride horses, read Louis L’Amour novels and especially love Dorothy, his sons and their families. Survivors include his wife, Dorothy, of nearly 70 years; Jim, Bob and Duff; daughters-in-law Debbie, Leslie, Mary Kay and Linda; grandchildren, Kim, David, Many, Christina, Kyler, Ryan, Amy, Robin and Anders and 14 great-grandchildren; sis- ters, Betty Lee Sasser, Donna Mae Campbell and Phylis Gibbs; brother-in-law Myron Gibbs; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and sister-in-law Rose Marie (Carper) Reynolds and her sons, Pat, Mike, Garry and Kelly. Jack was preceded in death by his parents, stepmother Beu- lah (Gribling) Pace, an infant brother and son Swede. Jack had fond memories of his Granddad Green visiting on Crow Creek. When he came, that meant he got to go fishing in the beaver ponds. Fishing became a tradition he then passed on to his grand- children. He wondered if any of his grandkids would remember going fishing with him. Jack’s life was one well-loved and well-lived. Memorial contributions may be made to the Enterprise Edu- cation Foundation, P.O. Box 58, Enterprise OR 97828. Arrangements entrusted to Bollman Funeral Home.
