Layton Forest
Products opens
in Wallowa
Sondra Lozier, the last
renter left in the huge Litch
Building on the corner of
West Main and River Street
in Enterprise, has found new
digs.
Lozier has been contem-
plating moving since the new
owner of the Litch Building,
McKee Brothers Investments,
took possession and discussed
reconstruction plans with the
renters.
Since then, Sugar Time
Bakery has moved to the newly
remodeled Burnaugh Building
(also a McKee project), R’s
Consignment moved across
the street to 105 W. Main and
Valley Barbers moved to 211
West Main. Lozier was the last
renter examining her options
in December 2017.
Lozier will be moving her
popular “Favorite Finds on
Main” business to 700 West
Main, across from the Red
Rooster Café and Main Street
Motors. Not only does she
keep her name, the new digs

of storage and easy access to
her storage in the NAPA Auto
Parts basement and windows
galore.
Lozier said she is contem-
plating how she will use those
windows.
“I’m really pleased about
this,” Lozier said. “It gives me
more room, storage, it’s going
to work a lot better for me
(than earlier ideas).”
When she was in her origi-
nal location in the Litch Build-
ing, she sent a lot of people
down to the Red Rooster Café,
she said, and with the grow-
ing familiarity of tourists with
that business and the addi-
tion to Rants and Raves Brew-
ery of Moscow, Idaho (begin-
ning remodeling at the old Ace
Hardware location in April),
there will be a lot of possibil-
ities on West Main.
Lozier plans to keep Favor-
ite Finds on Main open in the
old location until Feb. 28 and

Mill in Wallowa just keeps
attracting new timber-related
businesses.
Jake Layton of Wallowa, 33,
son of Ron and Rene Layton of
Joseph, is operating a portable
mill adjacent to and in tandem
with Butch Tanzey’s Tanzey
Forest Improvement Inc.
Layton, a wildland fire-
fighter for the U.S. Forest
Service who also coaches JV
basketball at Joseph Charter
School, is developing Layton
Forest Products to fill a need in
the community, he said.
Center for Arts and Culture in
Joseph. Songs and readings by
a variety of performers will be
featured as part of the wom-
en’s art exhibit on display in
the gallery during the month.
Music will be performed
by local a capella group Har-
mony Rising, plus musicians
Lauren Bihr, Meredith Brann,
Emma Carlson, Janis Carper,
Carolyn Lochert, Heidi Muller
and Laura Skovlin. Admission
is $10.

The business takes advan-
tage of a partnership with
Tanzey that results in the abil-
ity to pay private landowners a
premium price for their logs,
while offering retail custom-
ers a good price for raw lum-
ber and access to custom cuts.
Layton mills timber cut
from private lands Tanzey
manages and chops the lesser
quality logs for firewood and
kindling. Layton’s kindling is
dry and a big bundle goes for
$15. Find him on Facebook.
Layton’s mill can take
any log less than 36 inches in
diameter and produce special
cut beams along with (mostly
Douglas fir) construction lum-
ber (1x and 2x material 16 to
20 feet in length). He has slab
wood available, thick planks
with live edges (popular for
coffee tables, benches) and
blued pine. He also has a stock
of garden posts and fence
stays.
Pretty much any 2x mate-
rial is 90 cents a board foot,
Layton said.
Call him for prices and tell
him what you need or come in
with your plans, and he’ll help
you determine what you need.
His number is 541-263-1022.
