A10 WEDNESDAY January 31, 2018 OUTLAWS BESTED BY PROSPECTORS Boys drop to 0-4 in the district By Steve Tool Wallowa County Chieftain Both Outlaw basketball teams traveled to arch-en- emy John Day Jan. 26 for a league match-up that in the case of the ladies, would determine sole possession of first place. The boys were looking for their first league win. The ladies played their toughest game of the year but came up just short on a 56-52 score despite 14 points and 10 rebounds from Karli Bedard and the team shooting at 43 percent from the floor. “It was a tough game,” coach Mike Crawford said. “We were down by five at the end of the first quarter but were up by one at the half.” At one point, the Outlaws were up by seven in the second quarter. After a lackluster third quarter, the ladies came back, outscoring the Prospectors 10-7, but couldn’t quite get it done. “There were things we could have done much better, but that’s a positive for us,” Crawford said. “We’re not peaking right now, but we’re working on it. We played a solid 32 minutes of good basketball.” Riley Gray added 10 points to the Outlaw cause while Ashley Exon had nine and Lexie Gassett poured eight through the hoop. The Outlaws are now 3-1 in league play and 12-3 on the year while having the sixth spot in state rankings. They next play at home versus Elgin on Friday, Feb. 2. The boys took a drubbing from the Prospectors, 66-47, leaving the team at 0-4 in conference play and 4-11 on the year. Stats for the game were not available prior to press deadline.
