A11 WEDNESDAY December 27, 2017 Outlaws shine at wrestling tournament By Steve Tool Wallowa county chieftain The Enterprise High School Outlaws traveled to Pasco, Wash., Dec. 23 where they placed 23rd in a field of 32 teams at the “Best of the West” tournament. Nearly all the schools had significantly larger student populations than EHS, and schools from as far away as Montana participated. “We didn’t do too bad,” said coach Troy Farwell. “We placed 23rd with only three wrestlers competing. There were some tough kids and tough teams there. I was really happy with how those three wrestled.” Farwell noted that Outlaw Shane Lund registered a fifth in the 120-pound category while Cole Farwell notched a fourth in the 132-pound bracket. Klint Norton, wres- tling in the 285-pound cate- gory didn’t place in the top five, but won his first match and earned four points for the Outlaws. Eagles ladies basketball dusted by Powder squad By Steve Tool Wallowa County Chieftain Because of some compli- cations after the Eagles’ heart- breaking 46-44 loss to arch-ri- val Powder Valley on Dec. 16, the Chieftain missed connect- ing with coach Lance Homan regarding the game before the Dec. 20 print deadline. He took time away from his vacation to provide stats and comments for this week’s edition. Homan said the girls played a sluggish first half and were down by three at the mid- point. The girls fought back hard and clawed their way to the lead going into the fourth quarter despite the absence of point guard Sabrina Albee due to illness. With four or five minutes remaining in the battle, key player Emma Hite went down due to an injury. The ladies felt the loss of Hite and fought with heart and determination but came up just short. “Playing in Powder is dif- ficult, but we showed that we can play in a tough environ- ment,” Homan said. He also noted the all-star performance of senior Alexis Sykora, who had 23 points. “Alexis was a beast, and she played as well as I’ve ever seen her in the second half,” he said.
