A10 WEDNESDAY November 15, 2017 Cougars’ season comes to an end Triad wins, 28-6, in state quarterfinals By Paul Wahl Wallowa County Chieftain The fi nal buzzer sounded on the Wallowa High School Football team’s season Saturday at Klamath Union High School in Klamath Falls. Triad High’s squad did something most teams the Cougars have faced have not been able to accomplish -- effectively shut down their running game. Wallowa was held to 184 yards rushing, 38 yards passing and one touchdown in the 6-28 defeat in Class 4A state quarterfi nal play. It was the third season loss for the Cougars. Triad amassed 328 yards, 227 rushing and 101 passing. “Triad played really good football and tackled well,” said Coach Matt Brockamp. “But I was really happy with our the team –– against Triad and all season long,” Wallowa’s tremendous trio –– quarterback Gus Ramsden, Aus- tin Brockamp and Patrck Ritthaler –– led the attack against Triad and throughout the season. Ramsden led the defense with 8 tackles, Brockamp had 4. “We had several opportunities to answer against Triad, but just didn’t make the plays,” Coach Brockamp said. He termed the season “amaz- ing,” with more than 5,000 offensive yards. Austin Brockamp had 1,700 yards rushing, 9.5 yards per carry on average. Ritthaler tallied 1,300 yards, average 11 yards a carry and Rams- den had 1,200 yards with an average of more than eight yards a carry. Ritthaler will graduate this year; however, Ramsden and Brockamp will return. Senior Ethan Burns led the defense for the season with 114 tack- les, Brockamp had 106 and Ramsden 100. Coach Brockamp said the team had an amazing comeback after last year’s disappointing season. “The way this team responded” was the highlight of the season, he said.
