A6 News wallowa.com B RING YOUR DOG TO WORK August 23, 2017 Wallowa County Chieftain Pop up food truck opens BIZ BUZZ By Kathleen Ellyn Wallowa County Chieftain Photos by Paul Wahl/Chieftain • As busy as everyone has been this summer, you may not have had time to stop at the Ter- minal Gravity “pop up” food truck on Joseph’s Main Street at the old Mutiny Brewing site. The pop up began serving food and beer on the Wednesday of Chief Joseph Days. TG Marketing guru Kevin Harlander said that TG and the Eastfork Brewery group have decided to keep the pop up going until Eastfork Brewery opens in the locale. He expects that to happen in the fall. In the meantime, you can’t miss the pop up. There’s plenty of seating at picnic-style tables with umbrellas to protect you from the sun. The portable kitchen has a “well developed menu for a food truck,” Harlander said. You can get a variety of burgers, tacos and salad Wednes- days through the weekend. They’re open Fri- day, Saturday and Sunday 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Wednesday and Thursday at 4 p.m. to close. • Travelers to Wallowa may have been dis- appointed when they noticed Kathy Nelson’s Pit Stop Barbecue, 402 E. Hwy. 82, is closed. We’re sad about that but excited about what might come next in that locale. Nelson is doing just fi ne — she’s just jug- gling her responsibilities and re-prioritizing. Kathleen Ellyn Even with the Pit Stop closed, she’s got three jobs including continuing to cook up her fab- ulous food as a caterer. The property is for sale through Timberline Realty and includes the 1,300 square-foot restaurant and drive-through and the 30x40-foot 2-bay former Casper’s Auto- motive next door. • Community Bank has announced that it has rewarded 748 students a total of $17,135 in 2017 in their Earn While You Learn Program. This is an all-time high for the program, now in it’s seventh year. The program is annual and stu- dents can earn up to $50 per year. The program began in 2011 and 190 students immediately took advantage of the savings, banking a total of $3,895 that year. In all, since that time, the bank has handed out $79,608 to top students. The program rewards top students by depos- iting $1 per top grade (in any main school sub- ject) in their Community Bank Youth Savings accounts. During the months of June and July, all bank branches accept end-of-the-year report cards from students in grades 1-12. BUSINESS BRIEFS Above, Denise Clevenger, left and her dog, Sheriff Hol- ly, and Cathy McKenzie with her dog, Max, were the only en- tires in the Best Costume Cat- egory during the Wallowa Me- morial Hospital “Bring Your Pet to Work Day” on Thurs- day, Aug. 17 at the hospital. The event attracted nearly a dozen dogs large and small. At right, Clevenger attempts to find a “horse” for her dog, on the back of Kelley Jenson’s Great Dane, Lola, during the event, which was designed as fun ac- tivity to serve as a stress reliev- er for hospital employees. Lola was mostly willing to accom- modate the Sheriff. Parker will be Angus delegate T HE B OOKLOFT AND Skylight Gallery Jeffrey D.
