Bronze Blues and Brews Friday Nigh Show-
case: 5:30 p.m. Joseph City Park, South Park St.,
Joseph. Provides a sneak peak at some of the
performers taking the main stage Saturday and
is one of the highlights of the festival. Saturday’s
musicians often join the Friday Night Showcase
host band for an improvised jam. Presale tickets
can be purchased online or locally at Sports Cor-
ral, Joseph Hardware or The Bookloft. Kids 10 and
younger are admitted free.
SATURDAY, AUG. 5
Back Country Bash: 3:30 p.m. 405 W. Wallowa
Ave., Joseph. Cody Canada and the Departed will
be headlining with performances from Corb Lund,
and Micky and the Motorcars as well. All tickets
will be general admission. Camping will be offered.
Gates open at 3 p.m. and music will begin around 4
p.m. Beer, food, after-party breakfast.
East Moraine Geology Hike: 9 a.m. 72214
Marina Lane, Joseph. Join geologist Ellen Morris
Bishop and explore the geologic history of Wallowa
County on Wallowa Lake’s East Moraine. Wear
sturdy hiking shoes and sunscreen, and bring bin-
oculars, cameras and water. Free, but donations
are appreciated. Wallowa Land Trust: 541-426-2042
Shibori Picnic –– Dyeing and Tying the Furo-
shki: 10 a.m. 100 N. Main, Joseph. Using her
organic indigo dye vat, Adriana Moreno will intro-
duce the basics of Japanese Shibori and demon-
strate a variety of folding, wrapping, binding and
knotting techniques to create resist patterns on cot-
ton cloth. Learn how to prepare the indigo dye bath
and several Shibori techniques, as well as some
Furoshiki methods for wrapping a gift or prepar-
ing a picnic bundle. Students will leave with several
cotton handkerchiefs, new friends and memories to
last a lifetime. Fee.
Sunrise Iron Antique Tractor Show: All-day
event 65708 Sunrise Rd., Enterprise. Every year
wheat farmer Erl McLaughlin opens the huge doors
on his showroom to share a truly awe-inspiring col-
lection of 100 tractors, plows, cultivators and other
antique machinery from the early 1900s. He has
added artwork made from steel wheels and other
antique parts to his show.
“Walk On” to Stop Diabetes: 9 a.m. Enter-
prise City Park 210 W. Greenwood St., Enterprise.
Do your part to stop diabetes. Fundraiser for the
American Diabetes Association. Register online or

Wilderness and Sublimity Opening Exhibit:

Runs through Sept. 26. The third show in Jose-
phy Center for Arts and Culture’s Wild Landscapes
Series.
Joseph Canyon Hike: 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Join
Ecologist David Mildrexler and explore Joseph
Canyon Country that includes expansive grass-
lands, old growth forests, stunning views and fasci-
nating cultural history. Meet at Wallowology. Prereg-

Lane, Joseph. Pancake breakfast served 7-10 a.m.
Airplane rides, static displays, historical and educa-
tional displays, antique and warplane displays, aer-
obatics and fly-overs, and aviation vendors, demon-
stration by the West Coast Raven and aerobatic
demonstration by Mark Peterson and his P51 Mus-
tang “Hell-er-Bust.”
Bronze Blues and Brews: Noon Joseph City
Park, South Park St., Joseph. Enjoy on Saturday
a day filled with live blues performances and taste
the different beers from around the region. Presale
tickets can be purchased online or locally at Sports
Corral, Joseph Hardware or The Bookloft. Kids 10
and under are admitted free.
Hurricane Creek Grange Pancake Feed:
7 a.m. 63081 Hurricane Creek Road, Joseph.
Choices include pancakes, eggs to order, biscuits
and gravy, breakfast meat, juice and coffee. Pro-
ceeds support the Hurricane Creek Grange ser-
vice activities.
Nature Storytelling with Technology: 9 a.m.
meet at Fishtrap House, Enterprise. Explore the
ancient art of storytelling with a modern twist. Fish-
trap Story Lab will provide iPads to use for express-
ing creativity while exploring the landscape. Par-
ticipants will have the opportunity at the end of the
outing to share their art or thoughts with the group.
Wear sturdy walking shoes and sunscreen, and
bring a camera, binoculars and water. Free, but
donations are appreciated, and reservations are
suggested.

Homes and businesses that
have unwanted paint hanging
around, listen up.
A paint drop-off event is 8 a.m.
to noon Saturday, Aug. 5, at the
Enterprise Recycling Center, 207
Fish Hatchery Lane, Enterprise.
People who want to drop off
paint must register and select a
time slot at paint-enterprise.event-
bride.com.
Most types of paint will be
accepted, including stain and var-
nish. Businesses that generate less
than 220 pounds (around 20-30
gallons) of hazardous waste per
month may bring any amount of
latex or oil-based paint,

but oil-based paint will not be
accepted.
House paint and primers, deck
and concrete sealers as well as
clear fi nishes may be dropped off.
No leaking or unlabeled con-
tainers, aerosol spray paints, drum
or containers larger than fi ve gal-
lons will be accepted. No hazard-
ous waste or chemicals will be
accepted, including glue, roofi ng
tar or cleaning chemicals.

Southern Rock and Alternative Rock band. The band
was formed by Cross Canadian Ragweed frontman
Cody Canada after Ragweed broke up in 2010.

Country Bash outdoor con-
cert will be Saturday, Aug.
5. Three major alternative
country acts will take stage
at the Chief Joseph Days
Rodeo Grounds in Joseph.
All tickets will be gen-
eral admission, and once in
the gate, music-lovers can
decide to dance in the dirt
of the arena or take a seat
in the stands. Camping will
be offered for $10 at the
23-acre park adjacent to the
venue.
Gates will open 3 p.m.,
and music will begin
around 4 p.m. There will be
beer gardens and food ven-
dors. After the music com-
mences, an “After Party
Breakfast” at the rodeo
grounds will take place.
Pancakes, eggs and Bloody
Marys are among the menu
items.

Shandon Aileen Towers
April 25, 1918 –– July 29, 2017
Shandon Aileen Towers, 99, of Joseph died at Wallowa
Memorial Hospital July 29, 2017.
Born April 25, 1918, at Elgin, Ore., she was the daughter of
Wilber and Blanche Gettings. She was married to Kenneth Tow-
ers at Clarkston, Wash., April 3, 1937. Kenneth preceded her in
death in 1984.
She loved to travel and meet people, as well as animals and
the outdoors. She is survived by Michael and wife Pamala Tow-
ers; three grandchildren, Shahn Towers, Allison Engman and
Mark Towers; and fi ve great-grandchildren.
At her request, there will no services. She has been cremated.

This week’s athlete of the
week is 2017 Enterprise High
School graduate Trent Bales.
The 18-year-old was recently
selected to play in the East-West
Shrine All-Star football game
slated for Aug. 5 in Baker City.
Bales, who said it was an
honor to be chosen, is 5-11 and
160 lbs. He played both running
back and middle linebacker
during his Outlaws years and
expects to play those positions
in the game.
He plans to attend Blue
Mountain Community College
this fall.
