ist and hand embroiderer Nich-
ole Alvarado as she demon-
strates five traditional stitches, all
of which may be used to embel-
lish a garment you’ve brought
along –– no needle and thread
experience necessary. Students
will learn back, split, satin and
stem stitch as well as French knot.
Choose your embellishment from
three small designs or create your
own. Bring a nonstretch garment
to embroider; cotton, linen and
denim work well. All other materi-
als are included and students will
go home with a small embroidery
stitch sampler, two needles and
a four-inch wooden embroidery
hoop, as well as enough embroi-
dery floss to complete your piece
at home. Fee: $58.

Susan J. Albee
Dec. 3, 1942 –– July 10, 2017
James “Jim” Edward Childers
June 19, 1931 –– June 28, 2017
Susan J. Albee, of Walla Walla,
Wash., passed away July 10, 2017,
at her home at the age of 74. Memo-
rial services will be 10 a.m. Satur-
day, July 22, at St. Paul’s Episcopal
Church in Walla Walla. Memorial
contributions can be made to the
scholarship fund of your choice,
Milton-Freewater Library, Walla
Walla Community Hospice, Help-
line of Walla Walla or Providence
St. Mary’s Regional Cancer Center.
Susan was born Dec. 3, 1942,
in Pendleton, Ore., the daughter of
Ralph B. and Margaret I. Hodgen
McEwen. She spent most of her Susan Albee
youth in Athena, Ore., and gradu-
ated from McEwen High School with honors. After high school
she attended the University of Oregon, receiving a bachelor’s
degree in business administration and teaching certifi cate.
Her early years of teaching were spent at Creswell High
School. She later was a substitute teacher in the Milton-Free-
water School District, taught adult education for Blue Mountain
Community College, and at Clerical Training Center/Lillie Rice
in Walla Walla. She also was deputy clerk for the Tum A Lum
School District for several years.
On Sept. 1, 1963, she married William A. “Bill” Albee at the
Redeemer Episcopal Church in Pendleton. Their fi rst years of
marriage were spent in Eugene, Ore. The couple spent 35 years
on Tum A Lum Road in Milton-Freewater where they raised their
family and assortment of critters; horse, burro, cow, sheep, goats,
dog, cats and chickens.
Susan had most years a large bountiful garden which she
loved to share with neighbors and friends. She enjoyed hiking,
gardening, reading, swimming, mountain trips to pick berries,
bird watching and wild fl owers with her many friends. The big-
gest thrill for her was her family, following closely the events of
grandchildren whether it be school events or their athletics. She
was an avid Oregon Ducks fan and followed their athletic events
for men and women. The last eight years were spent in Walla
Walla.
Susan was known for her warm smile, gentleness and accep-
tance of all people. She enjoyed volunteering at Milton-Free-
water Library, Walla Walla Library, Helpline, Hospice of Walla
Walla and Providence St. Mary’s Cancer Center. She was a mem-
ber of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Walla Walla and had been
a long-time member of St. James Episcopal Church where she
often played the organ. She also participated in Audubon Society,
Native Flower Association, Kappa Alpha Sorority and was a life
member of University Oregon Alumni Association.
Susan is survived by her husband William A. “Bill” Albee at
the home, sons Cameron M. (Kristin) Albee of Joseph; Robert
W. (Tressi) Albee of Williams, Ore.; Trevor K. (Amy) Albee of
Salem, Ore.; sister Gaye McEwen Haverland of Eugene, Ore.;
brother Douglas J. McEwen of Pendleton; and grandchildren
Satori, Sabrina, Malcolm, Taj, Ella and Crosby.
James “Jim” Edward Childers, 86, went home to be with his
Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on June 28, 2017.
Jim was born to Claire Amos and Lucille Clarice Childers
on June 19, 1931, in Enterprise. He grew up in Wallowa County
through the Great Depression and World War II years. His dad
worked for the U.S. Forest Service and his mom at First National
Bank of Oregon.
He was always surrounded by friends and family. He and his
brother ran the projector at the local movie theater. His family
remembers the funny stories told about antics performed with his
buddies during their high school years. He also had a love for
nice cars and enjoyed playing basketball and football and danc-
ing to the music of his day. He graduated from Enterprise High
School in 1950.
Jim served in the U.S. Air Force for a brief time and received
an honorable discharge in April 1951. After his military service,
he followed his brother Eugene and moved to Klamath Falls,
where he began working in the automotive business. His fi rst job
was at the Beacon gas station on East Main Street followed by
many years at Dugan and Mest Chevrolet, Thomas Dodge and
Miller Bros. Jim also worked for several years at Kimball Glass
and later in the retail clothing business in Klamath Falls.
Jim leaves behind his children, grandchildren, great-grand-
children and loving wife, Patricia. He was preceded in death by
his father, Claire; mother, Lucille; brother, Eugene; and wife,
Marlene (Nana).
Jim had many loves in life, but none greater than his love for
Jesus. He always made time for ball games, camping, storytell-
ing and hugging his grand babies. He enjoyed playing golf. He
helped take the gospel to China during a missions trip in 1984.
His knowledge of fashion and sharp dressing skills were nota-
ble. Very few took better care of their home and gardens than Jim
(he passed this on to his children). He had great concern for his
neighbors, who also loved and cared for him. He worked hard to
provide for his family. He was the biggest fan and supporter of
his children and always had words of encouragement and hope.
A private family service will be held at a later date.

David Ryan Sharp
May 30, 1947 -– June 22, 2017
David Ryan Sharp of Wallowa
died of natural causes June 22, 2017.
He resided in Wallowa for 15
years.
David was born and raised in
Phoenix, Ariz. He was retired from
NCR Corp.
He was a volunteer for seven years
with the Wallowa County Sheriff’s
Department, assisting with prisoner
transfers.
David is survived by two brothers:
Roger Sharp of Phoenix and Stephen
W. Sharp of Wallowa, as well as sev-
eral nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his David Sharp
parents, Thomas Andrew Sharp and
Dorothy Evelyn (Sutton) Sharp.
A memorial gathering is 10 a.m. Saturday, July 22, at the
United Methodist Church, 102 W 1st St, Wallowa. The event is
open to anyone who knew David.
Cremation has taken place.
Betty Pyeatt
Feb. 8, 1933 –– June 23, 2017
Betty Pyeatt was born in Dallas, Ore., Feb. 8, 1933, to Walter
and Alpha Craven. She had two younger brothers: Bob of Dallas
and Joe of The Dalles. She grew up in Dallas and graduated from
Dallas High School in 1951.
Betty married Herschel Greenwade in 1953. They had three
children: Melanie, Sally and Justin. They bought a small farm
outside of the Monmouth-Independence area and raised their
family in the beautiful Willamette Valley. Betty opened an
antique store on the farm and called it the Old Granary. She loved
it. She always had a big garden and so enjoyed working in it. She
had a big heart, and she loved all the animals they raised.
In 1983 she married Jim Pyeatt, and they moved to a beauti-
ful small ranch on the Lostine River in Wallowa County. They
opened a licensed outfi tter and guide service called the JP Pack
Station. She loved the Wallowa Mountains and enjoyed cooking
for the people at their camps and going on trail rides with them.
Betty had an antique shop in Joseph with her good friend Lor-
raine Weigand. She later worked for David Manuel, a nationally
known sculptor in Joseph.
In 1997 Betty and Jim retired and bought a house in the Wick-
enburg, Ariz., area.
Betty passed away at Sacred Heart Hospital in Spokane,
Wash., Friday, June 23, 2017. Her family and friends will dearly
miss her and will always remember her beautiful smile.
No services will be held. Betty wanted her ashes spread in the
Wallowa Mountains with Jim’s.

saw Bathke, who plays centerfield
between pitching stints, again
tearing the cover off the ball with
two doubles and several RBIs while
pitching four innings of two-hit
shutout ball.
