David E. Clegg, 63, of Enter-
prise, passed away unexpectedly
at his home on April 2, 2017. A
Celebration of Life will be held at
2:00 PM Saturday, April 15, at the
First Baptist Church of Enterprise
with Garry Wagner offi ciating.
Military Honors will be held
at the Enterprise Cemetery imme-
diately following the service with
dinner at the church.
David was born Jan. 18,1954,
in Baker, Ore. — 11 minutes after
his sister, Debbie. His parents were Robert Elmo and Oretta
Mae (Hearing) Clegg.
He attended Enterprise Grade School and graduated from
Enterprise High School in 1972. He was a member of the high
school choir and band. He played sports as an Enterprise “Sav-
age” on the football and golf teams.
On Valentine’s Day 1974, David enlisted in the U.S. Navy
Seabees. He was stationed at Port Hueneme Calif.; Adak,
Alaska; Midway Island and Okinawa. He was honorably dis-
charged in 1978.
After the military, he worked at Tektronix in Beaverton,
Kellermann Logging in Joseph, Wallowa County Nursing
Home and the Wallowa Valley Senior Living Center. During
this time, he also helped out at the Enterprise Laundromat.
The last three years he provided in-home care for the state
of Oregon and private clients. David really enjoyed his work
and had a reputation for being a compassionate caregiver. He
and his clients enjoyed each other’s company.
David liked hunting, fi shing, camping, four-wheeling and
especially visiting with everyone he met. He enjoyed traveling
with his best friend, John Evans. David was a member of the
Wallowa County Band.
He attended the First Baptist Church of Enterprise and
participated in activities with people there. He accepted Jesus
Christ as his Lord and Savior.
Survivors include his brothers, Jim (Roselyn) Clegg and
Ron Clegg of Enterprise, twin sister Debbie (Ron) Kellermann
of Joseph. Other survivors include nephew Deron (Athena)
Clegg of Salem, neice Amber Clegg and husband Chris Mun-
son of Bend, great neice Kadyn Clegg of Salem, and cousin
Jerry Clegg of Elgin. Preceding him in death were his parents,
Robert and Oretta Clegg.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Wallowa Val-
ley Senior Living Center or First Baptist Church of Enterprise
in care of Debbie Kellermann, 83131 Joseph Hwy., Joseph OR
97846.
On April 6, 2017, Janet Hel-
en Jeffords passed away. She
was born Oct. 2, 1935, to Dale
and Bernice (Buxton) Murray
in Baker City, Ore.
She grew up in and around
Baker City and graduated Bak-
er High School in 1953.
She married W. Ray Jef-
fords July 2, 1955, and had four
children. Moving to Wallowa
County in 1956, Janet spent
most of her life loving and en-
joying Wallowa County. She
worked 35-plus years at Wal-
lowa Memorial Hospital and Nursing Home where she retired
in 1998.
Janet loved to sew, putting photo albums together for her
kids and grandkids, working in her fl ower beds, gardening, get-
ting wood, picking Huckleberries, camping and traveling with
friends and family. Janet and Ray visited their children and
grandchildren all over the USA.
After retirement, they traveled across America in a plane for
their 50th wedding anniversary, went to Hawaii with a friend
and took long vacations with their children. She visited Germa-
ny, France and Austria and many National Parks like Glacier,
Theodore Roosevelt National Park and Mt. Rushmore to name
a few. She went fi shing with Ray and her kids the last few years.
Janet is survived by all four of her children: Kimberlie
(Mark), Tim (Debbie), Tammy (Burke) and Pamela (Doug);
fi ve grandchildren: Katrina (Wylie), Lisa (BJ), Cricket
(Chance), Amanda (Jeremy) and Tia (Sam); fi ve great-grand-
children: Kacie, Kristyn, Blaine, Brodie, and Kalley. She was
preceded in death by her husband Ray, both of her parents, a
grandson (Joseph) and various aunts, uncles and cousins.
There will be Remembrance of Life April 22, 2017 at the
Senior Center in Wallowa for Janet and Ray. Everyone is in-
vited to attend this special occasion and potluck from 11 a.m.
to 1 p.m. Bring your favorite dish. Instead of fl owers, donate
to the charity of your choice or the Alzheimer’s Association.
Chris Duggan, 59, of Montrose, Colo., passed away peace-
fully April 2, 2017, with his family by his side at Montrose
Memorial Hospital.
Chris was born June 21, 1957, in Salem, Ore., to Jack and
Nadine (Hurt) Duggan where he joined his sisters Sandra and
Kathleen.
Around the age of 13, the family moved to Joseph, Ore.,
where he attended school and met the love of his life and many
life-long friends.
Chris enjoyed logging with his dad and son, Jason, more
than anything. What stories he could tell, about everything
from helicopters in Joseph Canyon to the Redwoods of Cali-
fornia or the steep mountains of Colorado. It was his passion.
Even in the end, he had a smile when a logging story was
remembered.
Chris is survived by his wife Koni and dog Stormi of Mon-
trose; children Jeremy (Heather) Brown of Battle Ground,
Wash., Mandy (Kevin Rogers) Duggan of Battle Ground, Ja-
son (Lynann) Duggan of Lewiston, Idaho, and Kylee (Gunner)
Scott of Battle Ground.
He was especially proud of his nine grandchildren and en-
joyed watching them grow. He is also survived by his sisters
Sandra (Irvin) Tucker of Gates, Ore., and Kathleen (James)
Bush of Hermiston, Ore., Aunt Ruth Giroux of Medford, Ore.,
nephew Brody (Virginia) Tucker of Aumsville, Ore, and niece
Jacki (George) Frey of Salem, Ore. and a great niece and
nephew. Chris was preceded in death by his mother and father
and Uncle Joe Giroux.
Per Chris’ wishes, no service will be held. The family will
be holding a spreading of ashes this summer in Oregon in one
of his favorite canyons.

James Arthur Maasdam, 76, of Enterprise, died from injuries
sustained in a fall April 3, 2017, with his family by his side.
Jim was born April 27,1940, in Algona, Iowa, to the late Ar-
thur and Lillian Maasdam. At age 9, he moved with his family
to Wallowa County.
Jim graduated from Enterprise High School in 1958 and
joined the U.S. Air Force. Jim returned to Enterprise and mar-
ried his wife of 55 years, Carolyn Prince.
He worked the family farm and various jobs until going to
work for Harold Jensen as a self-taught logging truck mechanic
for 14 years. He owned Ag Power & Equipment for seven long
years before deciding to prove that he could drive truck better
than all the guys he’d been listening to for years. However, he
bought a Kenworth despite telling his kids their entire lives that
Peterbilt’s were the only truck to drive.
No matter the make, Jim could drive anything and anywhere.
Family vacations driving across the country with four kids were
the norm, and Jim had the stories to prove it. Thankfully all
the kids were always incredibly well behaved and Carolyn is
a saint.
Jim’s sense of humor was his most defi ning quality. If you’ve
met Jim, you’ve been teased by Jim. His nine grandchildren
and two great-grandchildren know this very well. Although he
would say he didn’t see anything grand about them, they were
the joy of his life and that was obvious to all.
Jim’s love of the Wallowa Valley and his family is well-doc-
umented in the photos he has taken throughout the years. He
could tell you where every picture was taken and what was
happening at the time. He was sure that he had seen more of
Wallowa County than maybe anyone else ever has.
His faith was important to Jim, and it showed in the ser-
vice he provided to his church and his community. His parents
helped found Grace Lutheran Church and Jim has helped clean,
paint, build, mow and trim every inch of it. He has served as
Treasurer and president for many years and led many lay ser-
vices.
Jim was a quietly generous man. The Community Connec-
tion Food Bank has been the benefi ciary of his garden bounty
for many years. He donated logs to the EHS FFA to raise money
to attend the National Convention, and he was a longtime sup-
porter of the 4-H and FFA Fat Stock Sale.
Jim, in his faith, often said “I’m not afraid to die; I’m just
afraid of how I might die.” We are all sure he went on his terms.
Jim is survived by his wife Carolyn; brother Jerry (Sharon)
Maasdam, Hillsboro, Ore.; sister Jean (Mike) Claymore, Boise,
Idaho; sister Janice Foster, Boise; son Kane (Nancy) Maasdam,
Enterprise; son Mark (Joni) Maasdam, Enterprise; daughter
Kody Johnson, Enterprise; daughter Mary Barnett, Boise; nine
grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and numerous nieces
and nephews.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Art & Lillian
Maasdam and his in-laws, James & Iva Prince.

Cemetery District, 301 SE 6th St., Enterprise, OR 97828.
