Thomas Shell
April 15, 1947 — March 18, 2017
Tom Shell, 69, of Los An-
geles, passed away peaceful-
ly at his home on March 18,
2017, after an extended ill-
ness. No formal services will
be held.
Tom was born in Wal-
lowa, Oregon, the only child
of Thorsten and Marian Shell
(nee Cobb.)
It was apparent from a
young age that Tom was mu-
sically gifted, particularly so
with his innate talents on the
keyboard. Tom studied music
at Whitman College, Stanford
University and then Julliard
School. From there, world-re-
nowned pianist, composer
and teacher Nadia Boulanger
selected him to study piano
with her for two years. Tom’s
high-caliber
musicianship
was expressed professionally
as a pianist, arranger, conduc-
tor, vocal coach and session
singer.
He worked with many lu-
minaries of the stage, screen
and television over nearly
four decades and performed
both nationally and interna-
tionally.
He was principal accompa-
nist of the Gay Men’s Chorus
of Los Angeles from 2000 to
2007. Tom was a member of
SAG-AFTRA and AFM.
As important to Tom as
his professional credits were

his many lifelong friendships
with people from all walks of
life. Tom’s bright smile, dis-
arming openness, clever wit
and gracious charm quickly
endeared him to all he met.
He was a daily presence
at Blu Jam Cafe in Holly-
wood where he forged strong
friendships with both staff
and patrons, which he valued
greatly.
All who knew Tom were
enriched by their experiences
of his genuine and generous
nature. During the fi nal weeks
of his life, a steady stream of
friends came to his home to
indulge in reminiscing and
joyful banter with Tom. He
leaves his many friends with
an empty space in their hearts,
but also an understanding of
what beauty and generosity
in a human being can bring to
all our hearts. Go serenely; we
love you deeply.
Shirley Jennings went to be
with the Lord on March 30 at
Wallowa Memorial Hospital in
Enterprise.
Funeral services for Shirley

Jerry Jennings on February 14,
1952.
She attended grade school
at the Eddison School in Walla
Walla, Washington and moved
to Joseph, Oregon in 1945. She
graduated from Joseph High
School in 1952.
She was a homemaker and
worked as a bookkeeper for
Millers Mill in Joseph, and lat-
er she kept books for the fam-
ily business: Jerry’s Richfi eld
Station and Jennings Electric.
She also sold Avon and Home
Interiors for a number of years.
In her later years she worked at
Dummer’s Pharmacy.
She enjoyed being involved
in school activities such as class
secretary, school plays and be-
ing a Majorette for the Jo-Hi
Eagles. Shirley loved painting
and writing poems. Her favor-
ite hobbies were spending time
with her family and friends, and
helping those that she could.

George Junior Floyd died
at home in Lostine on Sunday,
Dec. 11, 2016. He was born in
Woodland on March 21, 1920,
to George Wesley and Susie
Davis Floyd.
He spent most of his life
in the Davis area and retired
to Oregon in 1982. He was
preceded in death by his old-
er brother William, fi rst wife
Alma and second wife Donna.
He is survived by four chil-

Returning to Condon, Don drove a grain truck and later became Manager of the Elevator. He

Kathy was teaching 2nd grade at the time. Their first date was a fishing trip to a stream with lots of
rattlesnakes. Don and Kathy then moved to The Dalles. Don was hired as a disc-jockey at KACI
radio station, while Kathy was hired at Chenowith Elementary School. Don soon became a full-
time sales manager at KACI. He loved being out in The Dalles community, getting to know people
and helping them advertise their businesses.
In his later years, Don filled his days with what he loved. He returned to radio with BiCoastal
Media, continued the upkeep of his beloved country home, and spent countless adventures with
his wife and daughter. Don was a family man and a good man. He believed in working hard, being
honest, and giving a helping hand. He will be missed immensely by his family, friends, and all who
knew him.
A graveside service will be held at Wallowa Cemetery at a later date.

Leo Tipton “Tip” Proctor
passed away peacefully in his
Prineville home surrounded
by his family on March 27,
2017.
He was born June 8, 1928
to Felda Abel and Mary Ol-
ive (John) Proctor in Cold
Springs, Missouri. Tip at-
tended elementary school at
Champion, Missouri. He left
the family farm and moved to
Oregon as a teenager and was
working in the timber indus-
try in Sandy for his brother-
in-law when he met and mar-
ried his wife of 67 years, Ruth
Palmer.
Between 1949 and 2017,
Tip and Ruth split their time
living, working, raising their
family and gathering friends
in Central Oregon, Lake
County, Oregon, Wallowa
County, Oregon and southern
Missouri.
During his life, Tip worked
in road construction, for the
REA bringing power to the
Izee and Suplee area, as a me-
chanic, in a pumice plant, for
two different tire businesses
(including fi rst night foreman
for Les Schwab’s production
plant), as a logger, as a horse
logger and as a dairy and hog
farmer.
But the love of working
with livestock always brought
him back to ranch work. He
worked as a ranch hand, buck-
aroo and farm boss on numer-
ous ranches around Prineville
and “upper country:” Gilliam
County, Lake County and Wal-
lowa County. Tip worked for
Frank Houston, Calvin Sher-
man, Abe Hackleman, Bonham
Keerin as well as Hudspeth
Land and Livestock on the
Keystone Ranch.
Working was Tip’s hobby,
but he also enjoyed attending
rodeos, horse shows, plowings
and bluegrass music festivals,
gardening, hunting, fox hunting
George Junior Floyd
March 21, 1920-Dec. 11, 2016
Don’s family lived in Burns and John Day, Oregon throughout his high school years. Don
graduated from John Day High School in 1971. He enjoyed football, basketball, and track during
his 3 years in high school there. Summers he worked at the Hines Lumber Mill and was a weekend
reserve firefighter. He loved hunting, fishing, and working his trap-line. He then furthered his
education at Blue Mountain Community College in Pendleton, from 1971-1973. He graduated with
an Associate in Science Degree in Radio Broadcasting, while working at local station KTIX.
On October 11th, 1989, Bailey Anne Maxwell was born. Bailey was her parents pride and joy, and
definitely a daddy’s girl. As Bailey grew, so did her interests and activities. Don and his camera
rarely missed an event. Don was not only his daughter’s biggest cheerleader, but also her #1 coach
in both sports and life. It was always clear that he would move heaven and earth for her.

D EATH N OTICES
Donald was born March 28th, 1953 in Enterprise, Oregon. He was the new addition to his older
brother James Bailey Maxwell, who was 2 ½ years older. His parents, Marvin Lee Maxwell and
Ella Blanche Maxwell, named Don after his uncle, Donald (Bud) Maxwell. His family moved to
Ontario, Oregon in 1954 as his father pursued his career in banking. In 1955 they moved to Merril,
Oregon, where they welcomed new baby Gregory Dale Maxwell. His father’s banking career
relocated them to many places including Hood River and then eventually Condon, where they
settled down for a while. Don initially found his love for music in elementary school in Condon,
where he played drums in a 4th grade cover band of The Turtles. However, when it came down to
stage time, their sign was spelled, “The Trutles.” This only fueled his love of music and Don began
guitar lessons during this time.
Donald Maxwell married Kathleen Raasch on August 14th, 1982 at the home of Ken and Marge
Raasch in Hood River. The purchase of 10 acres gave Don and Kathy huge challenges and joy.
Putting in a manufactured home and a barn was the start of their beautiful country retreat. Don
loved being outdoors working on beautifying the landscape. It was soon after that, he began his
work with Craig Office Supply.
