A2 Obituaries/Community wallowa.com Christmas Concert fi lls Josephy Center The kids really love doing it, and it’s a fun song to do, and everybody gets to get in on it by the end.” He added that because of their years performing at the concert, the family’s holiday repertoire expanded to the point they were able to record a Christmas album for family and friends. Josephy Center director Cheryl Coughlan said she considered the show a success from both a musical and fund- raising standpoint. “I would say this one was the most successful concert yet, we had a lot of people and we took in a lot of donations, and the talent was as good or better than it has ever been,” she said. The event, which had a sug- gested donation of $10, raised more than $1,400 for both the center and music alliance. WVMA director Janis Carper, was equally enthusi- astic. “I thought the program was delightful, and the turnout was really great with really good energy in the room,” she said. The director added that she particularly enjoyed how many young people performed at the concert. Like Coughlan, Carper was pleased with the crowd and its generosity. “I thought it was the perfect amount to fi ll the room, and they were very generous with their donations,” she said. “I really look forward to it, and it’s amazing how many peo- ple come to it year after year,” she said. By Steve Tool Wallowa County Chieftain More than 100 people fi lled the Josephy Center, in- cluding the upstairs area, for the 2016 Community Christ- mas Concert on Dec. 18. The concert is a dual fund- raiser for both the Wallowa Valley Music Alliance and the Josephy Center. At least a dozen singers and musicians kept the audi- ence entertained throughout the two-hour event, with lo- cal piano phenom Gail Swart opening the show, followed by her playing accompaniment for Ted Hays and Janis Carp- er performing their version of “Baby, It’s Cold Outside.” Other acts included the Oliver family, Rebecca Lenehan and her violin students, Bob Webb and Heidi Muller, Kathy Hunt- er and Mark Eubanks with his group. One of the most entertain- ing moments of the night came when nine and seven-year-old cousins Alden Brann and Freja Hostetter sang “All I want for Christmas is my Two Front Teeth” with their matching sets of missing front teeth. Darrell Brann, who has par- ticipating in the concert with his family for the last eight years, played to enthusiastic audience response. Brann said he and his family have never grown tired of the event. “We have fun, and most of the times we do tunes off of our album,” he said. “One of the songs we’re really honing in on is (Bill Monroe classic) “Christmas Time’s a Comin.” December 28, 2016 Wallowa County Chieftain A FTER THE MUSIC , A THANK - YOU Courtesy Photo/Marla Dotson At the Dec. 28 Joseph Charter School Christmas program, JCS music teacher Michell Homan and her elementary school music students watch as Penny Arentson, (left) Co-Chair of the Joseph City Park Playground Renovation Committee, thanks them for their $2000 contribution to the playground renovation.
