worked on the little things and
really detailed it out this week.”
Koehn attributed his team’s
success on both sides of the ball
to the play of his starting interi-
or linemen — seniors Ben Lo-
pez, Kai Oliver and Gavin Bald-
win, and junior Riley Warnock.
“We named the big four our
captains today, so we kind of put
everything on the shoulders of
our interior line. We told them,
this is your game. You guys do
your job and we’re gonna win
this game.”
The game was a bit of a re-
union for Koehn, who graduat-

Joseph coach Toby Koehn
said his team was disappointed
by the Powder Valley game, but
his players kept their heads up
and refocused on fundamentals.
“When we looked at ilm
on Powder (Valley), we no-
ticed that we weren’t that far
off,” Koehn said. “There were
certain blocks and assignments
that we missed and we just did
it enough times that, well, you
saw what happened. So we just
served as principal and football
coach there before joining the
Joseph staff in 2014.
I have a lot of love for those
boys I coached in Cove and a
lot of love for these boys (in Jo-
seph),“ said Koehn.
After the game, nearly the
entire Cove sideline — play-
ers, coaches, parents and fans
— found Koehn to congratulate
him and say hi.

Haga opened the scoring with a 65-yard
TD run and later connected on a 26-yard TD
pass to Joe Robb, all in the irst quarter.
After the Spartans tied the game at 14-14
with a 52-yard fumble return, Austin Brock-
amp scored on a 31-yard TD run and added
a two-point conversion for good measure.
The Spartans answered, however, and the
teams went into halftime tied 22-22.
Pine Eagle scored on a short run and
converted the two-point play to pull ahead
in the third.
Wallowa narrowed the margin when
Wallowa County Chieftain
Hage hit Chandler Burns for a 7-yard TD
pass, but the Cougars couldn’t convert the
two-point play, and neither team managed
to score again.
Brockamp inished with 73 rushing
yards on 10 attempts, and Burns added 59
yards on 14 attempts.
Robb led the defense with seven tackles
and six assists, while Brockamp inished
with four solo tackles, eight assists and one
tackle for a loss.
Pine Eagle managed just 165 yards of of-
fense on the night and converted just one of
10 third-down attempts.
Brockamp and Haga each also recovered
a fumble for Wallowa.
Wallowa travels to take on Cove (1-5,
0-3) at 7 p.m. Friday.
