News wallowa.com BUZZ meditation class you can attend a little further down in this col- umn. We’ve got a couple of months of great hiking ahead of us, but it may be time to start thinking about how we’ll keep in shape during the winter. I know all you CHIPS program people are already thinking about this. So this week I’m tipping you off about a few of the yoga, zumba and mediation classes in the county. I’ll have left one of your favorites out of this list, so let me know right away and I’ll tell folks about your favorites next time. • First on my list is Esther Petrocini. She’s got classes in both Lostine and Joseph and at just about any level where you feel capable, starting with Intro to Yoga above the Lostine Tav- ern from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Satur- days. She teaches Core Yoga at Lostine Tavern on Wednesday. She also teaches at The Place behind the United Methodist Church in Joseph on South Lake Street with classes includ- ing Gentle Hatha, Align and Refi ne and an All Levels lunch- time yoga break on Thursdays at noon. You can email her at elapit@gmail.com or call 541- 5154 for her full schedule and prices. • Trish Zennie also teaches yoga at her studio right across from JayZee Lumber at 305 Samples St. in Joseph. Thurs- day at 4 p.m., it’s Mindful Movement, and at 5:40 p.m. it’s Restorative Yoga. At 8 a.m. Friday it’s Power Yoga. You can fi nd her on Facebook at Bodywork Joseph Yoga Studio, online at www.yogajoseph.com or call 541-624-2000. • If you’re looking for some stress relief, there is the Tibet- an Meditation class in the yoga studio at Josephy Center from 5-6:15 p.m. Thursday. That is by donation. Call 541-432- 0499. • Tammi Chapman has a popular zumba class that sever- al of the dragon boat paddlers recommend. Those classes are from 6:30-7:30 a.m. Monday, Wednesday and Friday at the Joseph Community Center. Tammi has a Facebook page at Zumba Fitness With Tammi or you can email her at crazy- 4boovas@yahoo.com. •Olivia Fox also teaches zumba. Her classes are in En- terprise above the Soroptimist Club from 7:3-8:30 p.m. Tues- days and Wednesdays. She has a Facebook page under Olivia Calene Fox. • This next one is a comfort service for your horse. We’ve a new farrier in town in Craig Yaw, originally from Molalla (so he can pronounce Wallowa). He does all phases of hoof care, hot and cold shoeing, barefoot trimming and corrective work and says he has over 25 years of experience with horses from gaited show horses to backyard ponies. You can reach him at 541-398-8350. His wife Kathleen has taken over operation of the Joseph laundromat and car wash. “We’re going to have more hours in the winter than they have had in the past,” Kathleen said. “We hope to have card readers in the car wash in the near future as well.” Craig’s family used to own a laundromat/car wash and he was excited about the prospect of going back into the business, Kathleen said. Her own back- ground is in a different sort of laundering — dog grooming. So there’s another skill-set she may apply in the future. That’s typical Wallowa County — two jobs or more, and our muddy dogs can hope Kathleen Yaw will assume the Wallowa Coun- ty habit. Call Kathleen at 541- 398-8302. • Another reminder about opportunities to invest in your neighbors. As you may recall, Oregon has a new law that al- lows regular folks to invest in Oregon businesses and encour- ages Oregon’s entrepreneurs to raise capital from their neigh- bors. Next month you can learn more by joining Northeast Or- egon Economic Development District (NEOEDD) staff as they describe the Community Public Offering (CPO) pro- gram and its history. Then, Joseph-based Judy Goodman, founder of BGood Bars, will present her actual CPO that is fi led with the State of Oregon. “I’m thrilled to have inves- tors who care about the future of my business,” says Judy. “It’s like my own team of cheerleaders, plus they have the potential to gain from my fi nan- cial success as well.” BGood Bars are artisan en- ergy bars that are hand-crafted with unprocessed and often organic ingredients. They are sweetened only with honey and/or the naturally occurring sugars in the fruit and dipped in “fair trade” dark chocolate. Goodman launched BGood Bars in 2014 and has seen growth ever since, expanding her reach throughout Oregon and Idaho. She recently made her minimum goal for her CPO, a major milestone in the program. That meeting will be held at 6 p.m. Oct. 18 at Dry Creek Design, 110 E. 1st St. in Wal- lowa. No registration is re- quired. Suggested donation to NEOEDD scaled $5 to $15; free for students. Continued from Page A1 “I’ve heard from a number of people that since Sunset magazine there has been higher traffi c of tourism,” he said, and left it at that. I’ll share two of my favorite quotes here. The fi rst is “con- fusion is the beginning of wis- dom,” and that looks like where we are right now. We need the tourism, we need the solitude and space that Wallowa County affords us. And here is my second fa- vorite quote: “Do I contradict myself? Very well, then I con- tradict myself. I am large; I contain multitudes.” That’s Walt Whitman. So, we may be confused, but that’s because we are large people, and that’s got to be a good thing. Now, we have to fi gure out how to fi nd the point of bal- ance.
