Gov. Brown consolidates state agency IT security staffs

SALEM — Gov. Kate
Brown issued an executive
order Sept. 13 that centralizes
authority for the state’s infor-
mation technology security in
the state Ofice of the Chief
Information Oficer.
The move follows sever-
al data breaches, IT project
failures and reports that some
agencies use outdated encryp-
tion protocols that could make
personal information of state
website users vulnerable to
attack.
Brown’s order comes
ahead of an IT security audit
conducted by the Secretary of
State’s Ofice scheduled to be
released Dec. 1.
In an email to state agency
heads, Brown wrote that the
order is “an effort to improve
customer service to the pub-
lic” and bolster the security of
state data systems.
