Hells Canyon Mule Days announces Max Walker Memorial Scholarship winners Courtesy photos From left: Will McCadden, Emily George, and Natalie Williams The Hells Canyon Mule Days board of directors recently awarded $1,000 scholarships to three Wallowa County high school seniors. This year’s scholarships were granted to: • Emily George of Wal- lowa High School, daughter of Richard and Valerie George. Emily will attend Oregon State University in Corvallis with a major in psy- chology. • Will McCadden of Enter- prise High School, son of Kevin and Melanie McCad- den. Will plans to attend Washington State University in Pullman and study sports management. • Natalie Williams of Joseph Charter School, daughter of Robert and Stephanie Williams. Natalie plans to attend Oregon State University and major in Bio- Health Sciences. The first annual Max Walker Memorial Scholar- ship was given in the 2004- 2005 school year for one scholarship in the amount of $1,000 and was awarded to Wallowa High School student Lindsay Easom. With the continuing suc- cess of the Hells Canyon Mule Days event and the board’s focus on supporting local youth, the board made the decision in 2006 to increase the number of schol- arships to three $1,000 awards starting for 2006-2007 school year. To date, Hells Canyon Mule Days has awarded a total of $32,000 to Wallowa County students to help them achieve their academic goals. Once again this year, there was a strong field of appli- cants and each one was very deserving. The scholarship committee had a very diffi- cult time selecting only three scholarship winners from the qualified students. The com- mittee was impressed by the diverse goals of Emily, Will and Natalie, and their char- acter evaluation references, career choices and leadership qualities. The HCMD Board of Directors congratulates each student and wishes them a successful and enjoyable freshman year as they pursue their college education. Agriculture scholarships available The Wallowa County Agricultural Resource Foun- dation is happy to announce that its 2016 scholarship appli- cation is now available.
