Our next step is to expand into the planning stage.” Commentators for “The Great Escape” were Ted Hays and Jon Rombach, playing the part of two radio announcers who interrupted the broadcast of a fashion show to give a blow-by- blow account of the charac- ter escape. Lyn Craig wrote the clev- er radio play, which was salt- ed with plenty of hilarious ad-libbing on the part of the announcers. The audience got in on the fun by guessing the char- acters and the books from which they escaped. Special performances in- cluded the introduction of the story featuring Chief Jo- seph Days Court dressed in costumes from the ‘50s, ‘60s and ‘80s; Ted Hays as Jiminy Cricket singing “When You Wish Upon a Star” to Mary Thiel as Pinocchio; and Gail Swart as accompaniment on “It’s not dire; I didn’t get that fatal diagnosis or anything,” he said with a laugh. Citing the time commit- ment, DeBoie said the six months leading to Novem- ber’s election and the four years that follow were too big a commitment. “With my business and personal life, I just can’t A7 see my way clear to do- ing it the way it should be done,” he said DeBoie said he still plans to maintain commu- nity involvement and al- ready has volunteered his time toward several com- munity-based projects. “I’m still interested in the success of Wallowa County, and if there’s some role I can play that’s not as encompassing as the role of commissioner, I’ll con- sider doing it,” DeBoie said.
